From Band of Thebes

Look at the sheer happiness on everyone’s faces.

*happy smile*  I love the Household Cavalry anyway, always have.

And they are going to live in military married quarters.

I can’t wave my country’s flag fast enough sometimes.

"I can’t wave my country’s flag fast enough sometimes." I wish I could say that about America. When you see all the dreadful anti-gay policies (including DADT) and hear all the horrendous hate-speach going on over here, do you ever think, "Oh those silly Colonies, what mess have they got themselves into now?"

Yes - i really really really do. WHY are you all so SCARED OF SILLY THINGS LIKE LOVE and NATIONAL HEALTH?

WHY are you all so SCARED OF SILLY THINGS

If I thought that this was anything more than an innocent over-generalization, I would probably say: We *all* are not, dear, any more than you *all* are totally in approval of this (absolutely lovely) union. I love the fact that this can actually happen in Britain, and HATE that it is still legally, and "morally", so contentious in the US, but you'll have to do some truly fancy talking to convince me that A LOT of Brits don't think these boys' public union to be at least mildly disgusting.

We humans just aren't *that* advanced.

i don't think that "a lot" are, no. It's been pretty well discussed and expounded and mulled over in recent years - (not this marriage but same sex marriage in general) and it certainly appears that the majority of opinion is "so what?" it's become a non-issue. Of course it's not religious marriage in the sense of we still don't allow it in church - that's another step, and one that I can't see happening for a long time, but that's another matter entirely - this was done for human rights purposes, because so many remaining partners were losing their homes and inheritances that they had legal right to, and so the law was changed for that reason. We see the justice in that. Obviously there will always be a bigoted minority who "find it disgusting" but luckily they don't have power.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this. You have every right to be tremendously proud. I wish I could feel similarly about what's happening here. I live the results of fear and ignorance everday.

I love that the response of the soldier's CO was, "That's wonderful! Congratulations!"

This made me weep, and I concur with [livejournal.com profile] markprobst's comments.

I have little doubt that Lt. Daniel Choi and Capt. Jim Pietrangelo would agree. How wonderful you can celebrate with an open, military marriage, while we still have to mark our small victories by virtue of valiant soldiers being arrested for chaining themselves to our leader's fence in protest of basic human rights.

Wave that flag, hard.

The fact he came out to the army first made me smile hugely. Of course the Guards have always had a reputation...But still.

*le sigh*

I can't wave your country's flag fast enough either. Someday, I hope to wave my country's flag that fast too. :/

Also, since I have recently obtained a little extra money to spend, I just bought Transgressions. :)

That's what I love about the Britons. "Their personal thing, so what?" That attitude. Brilliant.

Of course there are always people who are going to go "ew" or "WRONG!" but happily, even if they do, and even if they are in charge -- there's not a lot they can do about it. Thank Glod. The whole "so what" thing is the best thing ever as far as I'm concerned. I hate the word Britons though. Ick.
