is anyone else having problems with gmail chat?

There was an option to change my email addy from googlemail to gmail today and I (and many others, it seems) took them up on it, and since then, chat hasn’t loaded.

So don’t do it.

This is hugely annoying.

Yeah, tried that. didn't work. chat still disabled.

That's very odd. I've had a gmail addy (well, er, two or three or is it four?) since they started, before all the gmail/googlemail kerfuffle. And I have chat in the Firefox browser addy, and in the Opera one ... I can't do iGoogle chat in Opera, though I can in Firefox or *spit* IE.

Have you turned off buzz? (horrible thing) - I did and that turned off chat and I had to turn it back on separately.

Yes never used buzz. it was definitely the gmail thing this morning. the second I clicked on the "yes please" button, chat froze and never came back.

The FAQ about it says: "Q: If I change my address, will I still be able to chat with my contacts? A: Yes. You will be able to chat with any contacts who use Gmail or Google Talk. If you use Gmail to chat with people who don't have a Google account and are using a 3rd party chat application other than AOL, you might need to re-invite these people to chat after you change your address." So it should work. Might be worth raising a support query?
