tired and ranty
Jun. 16th, 2010 09:38 pmAbsolutely exhausted. However Project tentatively named “I Knew Him” is moving along nicely! I rather like Harry, like many young men he’s full of (what he considers to be) wit but stuffed full of insecurity. I’m looking forward to knowing more about him. 3kwords and counting.
I really don’t have much to say (that wouldn’t piss many people off, at least) so I’ll comment on a couple of shows.
Dr Who. Am losing faith, and considering we have only the two part finale yet to go I can't see me being brought back into reassurance. The Van Gogh episode was beautifully shot, but really W.T.F? Firstly and hugely annoyingly, why isn't Amy dressing up? She's taken umbrage in the UK press because people are complaining about her short skirts - I don't have a problem with her short skirts at ALL if she's in a situation where they wouldn't be commented upon, but walking around 19th century Provence in someething no longer than a belt? Why would the doctor put her up for that kind of prejudice and scorn from the locals? And then of course it didn't happen, and no-one commented that she's half naked. There were some touches I liked - the whole "you must be Dutch" because both actors were Scottish and the actor was amazing in the part, but the monster was... pointless? pasted on? Gah. Someone said that it was supposed to be reflective of his depression but that doesn't work seeing as how it threw him across the room. And the doctor could see it with his machine (which I really liked) - but like all the worst car chases in empty cities, notice how the monster could chase the doctor through the town and there was no-one around. At all. Bad continuity and sloppy. And what the hell was it all about anyway? And the "for Amy"? In English? What? Gah. And the the Lodger thing. Dothey think we are entirely stupid? Haven't we already done this plot at LEAST once? It was just an opportunity to have some stupid slapstick, get the Doctor naked (which really, I don't want to see, Cordon would have been as attractive) and let the whole thing run like some kind of stupid sitcom. REALLY not impressed - and I had such hopes. It's not Smith's fault, I still think he's tremendous in the part, but the writers need shooting, and FOR GOD'S SAKE don't let Richard "Love, Actually" Curtis near Doctor Who EVER AGAIN.
True Blood was pretty damned good, though. Eric has a beautiful body and I was stuffing my hand in my mouth at the Bill and Sam interraction. HBO really knows its audience doesn’t it? heh. Also Bill is DAMNED HOT when covered in dirt. Jus’ sayin’.
OK Rant Over. Magma Baby is very very cute. And I’m grateful to the sports event that shall not be named that it’s making me read. I’ve re-read two dresdens this week. :D
