We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on livejournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

Firstly - I'd like to know who "We" are.

Are We Livejournal itself? And if so why?

I don't like to be told what to do, and I object very strongly the implication that I'm anti-something just because I don't turn into a fucking sheep. I'm lucky, I know, that I come from a country where I can stand in the street (or even go on television) and take the piss out of the Queen, or Tony Blair and no men in uniforms will come round my house in the middle of the night. (Sadly) I have the right to dress as a chicken and call myself Mr McCluck. I have the right to be gay. Or not. I have to right to approve of gays. Or not. I have the right to consider myself black, even if I'm not. I have the right to vote. But then I have the right to scoff chocolate and get pissed instead of voting, and care not a whit that generations of women were run over by racehorses for my rights.

So don't go and tell me that if I'm not part of the solution, I'm part of the problem. If I want to be part of either, I'll make my own mind up. And I'll only tell you if I feel like it. Whoever you are.

I'm for gay rights in the sense of full human rights for anybody, gay or straight or otherwise. However, I'm against stupid memes and those who promulgate them.

I agree with this, and I resent the fact that if I don't post the damn thing then it's some sort of unspoken thingo about how I don't support GBLT rights. Even though I do support them, but then I feel bad/stupid/waah for not posting the meme thingo, so catch 22. I make no sense right now, I sleepy. But.

I watched this turn up on my friends page more and more and it irritated the hell out of me. For the same reason you so perfectly described here. So, thank you for ranting about it. Yup. It just seemed a bit daft to me really, a bit like preaching to the choir. I don't really feel the need to Stand Up And Be Counted because in the circles that I move in, it's generally accepted that the vast majority believes in gay rights and it's not really necessary to shout about it. It'd be a bit like putting up a meme stating my preference for not being stabbed with a sharp stick. You know, well... duh. But maybe that's just because we live in a country where we don't need to be so millitant, as you say.
