Grrrr. Don't keep telling me what to do!
Oct. 3rd, 2006 05:25 pmWe would like to know who really believes in gay rights on livejournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.
Firstly - I'd like to know who "We" are.
Are We Livejournal itself? And if so why?
Are We The Anti-Sodomitic Tribe of Zambezi with Uber Hacking Powers? George Dubya? The Make Me Gay Brigade?
And WTF with the moral blackmail "If you don't believe in gay rights then just ignore this."???
If you don't believe that kittens should be well cared for, ignore this. OK?
I don't like to be told what to do, and I object very strongly the implication that I'm anti-something just because I don't turn into a fucking sheep. I'm lucky, I know, that I come from a country where I can stand in the street (or even go on television) and take the piss out of the Queen, or Tony Blair and no men in uniforms will come round my house in the middle of the night. (Sadly) I have the right to dress as a chicken and call myself Mr McCluck. I have the right to be gay. Or not. I have to right to approve of gays. Or not. I have the right to consider myself black, even if I'm not. I have the right to vote. But then I have the right to scoff chocolate and get pissed instead of voting, and care not a whit that generations of women were run over by racehorses for my rights.
So don't go and tell me that if I'm not part of the solution, I'm part of the problem. If I want to be part of either, I'll make my own mind up. And I'll only tell you if I feel like it. Whoever you are.
Thanks.

no men in uniforms will come round my house in the middle of the night. (Sadly)
Totally why I *heart* you.

Date: 2006-10-03 04:32 pm (UTC)I don't like people trying to install a feeling of guilt in me because I rarely do memes, and I'm sure they didn't mean it quite that way, but still.

Date: 2006-10-03 04:33 pm (UTC)Seriously, I think the memeish thing was probably started without any blackmailish vibes in mind, but it comes across pretty, well, blackmail-like... Not to mention a bit redundant in the slash-corner of fandom...
I'd have said its potential for harm is probably limited, but - skims flist - maybe not...

Date: 2006-10-03 04:38 pm (UTC)I'm for gay rights in the sense of full human rights for anybody, gay or straight or otherwise. However, I'm against stupid memes and those who promulgate them.

Date: 2006-10-03 06:40 pm (UTC)I don't mind other people choosing to do this kind of memes in their journals but I'm not going to be guilted into doing them myself. I don't think I have to post that statement to prove my support to gay rights. Or my opinion about anything, for that matter. Even if I wanted to, the emotional blackmail just puts me off.

Date: 2006-10-03 09:31 pm (UTC)Rather bemused viewing havoc. The discussions thus far have been far better then the stupid gacked meme that's going around. I should not, btw, be allowed on livejournal when I'm slightly plowed. Although if it could bring big men in black suits to my door (in big stompy boots)...
Bravo <applauds you wildly>
