Gah – it’s such a damned good show. I doubt it will ever resurface now, specially as many of the crew have gone on and made successes on other projects, but I would be so happy if it did. Such potential, such depth of story, backstory. I wish I could write something so multilayered where people want to know more more more.

I’d like to know: Who the hell Book was, really. And what it was that Mal did to make Jayne entirely his bitch, that he could get him to bow down to his will more easily than almost anyone else on the ship. What I also love is that Mal isn’t the typical image of the Alpha male. He’s not tall and buff and menacing, and particularly in Castle he’s very much a beta, imho, but somehow he does menacing very well. Obviously Joss sees something else in him, he did play a violent omnipotent (almost) preacher at some point too! :D

But, Oh, Jayne. I love thee. And Kaylee.

Has anyone managed to make a zombie dragon? I’m having trouble killing adults, they just won’t die!

I got into this one backwards, in a sense. My interest was piqued by a trailer for the film (Serenity), which I saw and completely fell in love with. So I got the Firefly DVDs for Christmas in 2008 and, after watching it, was gutted that the show had been cancelled and that future films were unlikely.

I agree about Shepherd Book. So many unanswered questions. Yeah, Jayne was my favourite character. I had to chuckle watching the show because that silly hat [that he wears briefly in the film] actually had a backstory in the series, when he receives it from his mother in the mail. So cute.

Hee - yes, that's exactly how I got into it . Went to see the film, loved it although was obviously entirely clueless as to who anyone was - whereas the audience were a lot more clued up - then went and bought the box set.

Mal's not tall? Other than that, I agree with everything you say.

Aw, Kaylee. Anyone who ever does or says anything mean to Kaylee must be instantly marked for DEATH! :D

compared to Jayne, I suppose I meant, he doesn't strike me as a towering man!

Fair point. I just had to go and check their relative heights there, Nathan Fillion is 6'1 & 1/2" (That's precise!) and Adam Baldwin is 6'4". According to the IMDB anyway.

Funny isn't it, Mal always comes over as tall to me, even with Jayne there.

Do you listen to the commentaries on the DVDs? Any with Nathan Fillion on are especially hilarious. I wish they had them on more episodes.

NO! I'll have to try the commentaries - thanks!

I keep hoping that there will be another movie, one that fits in between the end of the series and the Serenity movie. We could get a lot of answers there (especially about Book). I don't think it's going to happen now, though.

No, and it's such a shame - over here it was the surprise box office hit of the year

I know, *sniff* but then I don't get all the fans who wail and rend their garments. It's JOSH. He does this stuff. There's a LOT of precedent.

It's interesting, actually - I grieved for what happened in Serenity, and for Tara, but I didn't feel betrayed in the way I did when Russell Davies went postal on the Torchwood cast (and a certain Welsh tea-boy in particular).

At least when Joss kills people off, it matters, and you're allowed to grieve for them properly, and come to terms with it.

*re-reads comment*
And yes, I do know it's just fiction, why do you ask? ;)

*Waves hands* Another Jayne and Kaylee fan!

I watched Firefly first, and wasn't so taken with the film, but maybe I need to go and give it another chance... Too much character death for my liking, though.

I rewatched Firefly myself recently - there are so many unexplored avenues. You can see how it could have spun out interesting stories for many a series. My absolute favourite episode has to be Out of Gas, though. Genius.

You know, they are coming out with a comic that tells all about what was up with Book, it is called Shepards Tale, I am pretty sure it is with Dark Horse and is already up for pre-order at tfaw.com

You've seen Serenity as well? I like to think that the Operative is what Book was in his previous life.

Yes, I was confused with Serenity at first but soon caught up - I wonder if he was, it would make sense!
