I don't get Furry stories. I mean. I just don't get it. Could someone explain the appeal? I mean I know Disney, and Robin Hood and such, I suppose I never really thought about it from an erotic point of view. *shudder * How does a fox KISS? I don't even want to think about the other implications.

I don't get any of it. But then, I don't get the whole master/slave thing, either. They both sound to me like an awful lot of fuss for two adults to go through outside of a Halloween party.

Since I usually skip on mostly the sex scenes (at all not only on furry stories), I actually read them like I would read any other story. But I agree with you, if you indeed read the sex, it's completely different, there are muzzles, tails, and other anatomical parts. I think that in a way it's more difficult to write a romance/erotica furry story than any other type of story exactly for that reason. I had a judge who told me he has to skip on most the sex scenes as well, since he was embarassed by them, but indeed the story, and the writing style was good.

hmm - that's interesting, so even people who read them find the sex part rather icky! Thanks, dear!

It's a very specific kink - I'm not into it, either. But there's a who, massive fandom out there. And if you're grossed out by foxes - well, there are horses and bulls, too.

If it's not your thing, it's the same as any other kink. You get the same remarks about "Ewww, two men kissing!"
That kind of comment gets about the same reaction from furries as it does from slash writers.
I've had some explanations given me which suggest the furries who take it seriously enough to dress up regard those characters as alternate personas, just as much as costume folks who do fancy ballroom garb or POTC or something.
This is also tied into BDSM scenes like puppy or pony play, which is more about anxiety relief by taking yourself out of your usual constraints and fears in a safe space. It's one of the different kinds of subbie head space that can get very trippy. This can be pretty intense psychologically, not something I'd take lightly if somebody told me they were into it. They're not likely to tell you casually, either. It's a little hard to tell when a piece of writing or artwork is coded for that, or just into the more general furry-people-are-fun style.
Science fiction likes aliens. The conventions for twenty years now have been full of furry erotica and porny artwork, usually het guy artists drawing boob-heavy girls, and they *clearly* find it hawt. Two girls together is also a popular option, just as in anime and manga. It really doesn't matter if I find it absurd in the same way as old-fashioned porn mags, which often seem grotesque to me. Cue owl head tilt + me saying, "Whut? But that doesn't even work--" but hey, whatever floats your boat, right?
There's also the minority representation with muscle-bound furry guys getting hot and bothered about each other instead.
All of the furry writers like to bring in animal behavior traits (wolves always like to dominate, here we go again) and there's a good dose of BDSM porn in all of it, not just the gay stuff.
If you think about skin vs. fur textures, sensuality, and uses for extra body parts (gee, wonder why prehensile tails are always so popular!) along with the sort of interest some folks give to tentacle porn, you'll get that part of it.
I find it odd that I know folks who want to show me the stuff that explains it a little better.

When I write what people have told me are furries, I tend to do so with them being more humanoid than animal-like. I've a whole race in a fantasy world I'm writing that are referred to as 'feral', who have feral features (including tails, ears, claws, fur), but who do not have muzzles or barbed sex organs or anything like that.

While I write these characters, I see them in my head as humanoid with just animal characteristics. I don't read furry stories with characters who are more animal than humanoid because it just... squicks me. I don't get how muzzles and cold noses and barbed penises can be appealing, though I know it's a kink and I'm all for people having kinks. ^_^

How does a fox KISS?

According to the video I clicked on and watched in horrified fascination, with quite a lot of long pink tongue. I went @_@

*g* I was reading your post, and nodding... and then I remembered I'd written one! Hmm. But cats are different, right? Everyone loves cats...

Okay, maybe not in precisely that way!

You need to go read Omaha the Cat Dancer. 8)

Yes, I'm writing anthro. Always liked it. Started with Robin Hood, came up with Warthaven (a monthly strip long defunct) and the movie Rock and Rule, then graduated to Omaha.

You write, or draw them so the muzzles aren't really an impediment. I've got a bear and a leopard in mine.

For some reason I'm a-okay with semi-cat creatures (cat ears + tails, werepanthers, weretigers, werelions, wereleopards ad nauseam), but I'm squicked by half-wolf-half-human and half-dog-half-human. I blame anime.

Wolf/wolf and wolf/human sex = hawt, but half-wolf/human sex squicks me.

=/= dog ears + dog tail, which I find as cute as cat ears + cat tail.

It's been yeaaaars since I read starfox fanfic, but the authors treated it like human sex. Which gets a bit eyebrow-raising sometimes. Let alone a fox, how does a bird kiss? (Never mind that foxes have barbed penises, hurrr.) I can handwave some of it away (I don't really want to read about barbed penises), but it helps, of course, that I find some anthro animals hot (generally in a non-naked way). Can't really explain an attraction.
