quick update before i potter off to dad’s
Oct. 22nd, 2010 09:43 amLili is 100 percent back to normal, thank goodness. She definitely has more problems digesting chunks than paste so she gets special food, and I’m sticking to the several meals a day thing too, although it can only be as regular as I can make them, and he boys don’t understand why they get left out. It’s good to have her noisy and bossy again.
I’m definitely the laziest writer I know. I write “in format” and I never see anyone else do this—although I’m sure people do, it’s just that all the people I’m privileged to shared manuscripts seem to write “normally” e.g. spaces between paragraphs etc and i write from the first in the format that I’ll be sending it to the publisher in. I suppose it’s because I know I’m going to be going through the damn thing so many times from starting it to publication, that I want to save myself at least one sweep while I take out all the paragraph breaks, putting it into double spacing, changing the italic formatting, etc.
I was a bit down in the dumps yesterday, so I wrote nothing, despite it being “A day off” so I have to knucke down for the next 3 days. If I can do 1200 a day that will be super. It doesn’t sound much, does it!

Date: 2010-10-22 09:05 am (UTC)I guess writing in format is a brilliant saving of time if you know where the story is going. Maybe most of the work you see from other people doesn't have a destination yet? Most of the publishers blurbs that I've looked at request different types of formatting. Some of the instructions appear to be in Dutch!
Good luck with the writing.

Date: 2010-10-22 09:12 am (UTC)I write directly in standard manuscript format. It's easier for me to read, and I don't have to mess with fixing it later. Drives me batty when publishers want special formatting, argh.

Date: 2010-10-22 04:13 pm (UTC)I had a minor cat related disaster that had me cleaning cat throw up off the furniture, rug and stairway. And it wasn't even one of my cats that caused the trouble. *sigh*
I -never- put spaces between paragraphs and try to do the format and write in the style required by the house I'm planning to submit the piece to. I don't double space while writing, which is about the only formatting change I need to make.
I haven't been getting any writing done. Haven't gotten anything new done in almost a year, which totally sucks.
Good luck on your word count. I'm sure you can do it.
I'm hoping to break my slump by doing NaNoWriMo this year. It will be my 5th NaNo. I'd planned to write another book in my historic fantasy series, Legend of the Autumn Wind, but I've decided to write two novellas instead, both in variants of my Perseverance Operatives setting.
Clicked all the critters.

Date: 2010-10-22 04:52 pm (UTC)I still put two spaces between sentences, but I use find and replace to take them out - or leave it to the publisher to do, to be honest...
Good luck with the Nano!!

Date: 2010-10-24 03:25 pm (UTC)I write in format, too. It's easy enough to work with, plus I feel I'm trimming an extra step out of the process - in hopeful anticipation, you understand :).
