well i found out what happened to my contrib copies of "Travelrotica" I was clearing out my junk mail pile and sorting it into recycle and shred piles when i found a large empty envelope from Alyson post dated 1st August. It was just a large white A4 envelope. and empty.

*fumes*

So some BUGGER had stolen them! Well I hope he enjoyed the gay porn!

Very cross indeed. I'll have to buy my own now. That's NOT how things are supposed to go. Grr Grr Grr.

In other news I've been cat shopping and have two beds they will never sleep in, two bowls, two new carriers, and an assortment of toys they will eschew for things like loo roll holders if I know cats.

It was confiscated for its subversive content and threat of terrorism, given how it deals with travel.

*petpet*

That sucks. >:(

i can understand it if was going from here to there, i'm often sending things over there that are opened by customs and broken but this is unusual. The thing is that it was just a very flimsy envelope, the sort of thing you'd put a letter in, not really strong enough for a journey across the pond.

Does the envelope look as if it's been tampered with? If not, someone may have goofed at the publishers', and you should contact them and tell them that you didn't get the copies. Even if it *has* been tampered with, that might be worth a try.

Well, it's ripped open. It's just a white paper envelope, you'd think they would have used a jiffy bag or one of those plastic sealable envelopes.

I reckon someone just stole them. stupid postie for posting an empty envelope. Just as well the cheque wasn't in it.

Perhaps the thief was overwhelmed with a psychic vision of your erotica and just had to have it. ;) *hugs*

You're a good cat mama for buying them things they won't take interest in. I'll bet they'll use the beds when it gets cold.

I bet they'll all be sleeping on my bed when it gets cold!

Yes, indeed! Especially if they're joining your family as kittens.

You can always use the cat beds as hold-alls for the toys. Cats are so contrary and inventive.

You're in the UK, aren't you? Fill out a claim form at the post office for stolen/damaged mail. You may be outside the time limit by now, but it's certainly worth trying (and ASAP, in case the limit is two months). Keep the envelope as evidence. That it is gay smut is irrelevant -- I got them to cough up for several slash zines that had been damaged by my postie's habit of going to great effort to force the fat A4 envelope marked "do not bend" through a DL sized letter box rather than ring the doorbell and wait for me to open the door.

And yes, it may be an error at Alyson's end.

I'll do that. Alyson's error was putting them in such a bloody flimsy envelope. *biffs them*

It was definitely the envelope with the books? My trib copies of Ultimate Gay Erotica 2005 arrived in one of those stout cardboard flat rate envelope the USPS so nicely hands out, but that was to a US address. Alyson may have preferred to send international tribs by boat to save on shipping costs.

Why on earth did they send it in such a flimsy envelope? When I got my Best Gay Love copies they were in one of those cardboard mailers. I'd write them and complain, especially as didn't you say they were sending the check with the copies?

Speaking of contributor copies, I got mine!!! 5 lovely copies of Thaw, sitting on my shelf right now!
