Cook’s Source have apologised – with very little grace – over stealing someone’s article – details here – including a link to John Scalzi

This is hilarious, too.

>"Last month an article, “American as Apple Pie — Isn’t,” was placed in error in Cooks Source, without the approval of the writer, Monica Gaudio. We sincerely wish to apologize to her for this error. We have made a donation at her request, to her chosen institution, the Columbia School of Journalism. In addition, a donation the Western New England Food Bank, is being made in her name. It should be noted that Monica was given clear credit for using her article within the publication, and has been paid as she has requested to be paid."

Oh, that's too brilliant. ::eyeroll::

I like the "in error"

That comes under the Emergency Room visitor who says "oh yes, I fell and my penis fell into the hoover tube in error."

I like how they neatly skate over the fact that they even edited her article before printing it and told her that it was better that way. Having got rid of the medieval spelling and all. That she had put in there. On purpose. For a reason. Theme and stuff.

But at least they're changing the way they're going to work, and I feel pretty certain that they're going to stick by that from now on, because people will be keeping an eye on it.

I heard that The Food Network was considering legal action concerning the articles that had been copied from them. I would really like to know how that turns out. Because I'm nosy that way.

If Monica Gaudio is satisfied with that, I, as an outsider, can be too. But if I were her, I'd call in friends and family and see if they could help me locate the actual apology bit, because I can't quite seem to find it... *squint*

God those Downfall parodies never get old. :D There's always somthing to rant about.

I'd call that "apology" grudging at best.

If they stole from Disney, the Mouse's lawyers will make them very sorry indeed. Somebody would pass it along in that organization once somebody pointed out the infraction on either the editor's own web page, or on the magazine's. Interesting we haven't heard any action on that one as yet.

I'm not entirely sure how that's an apology. And where's the apology for 'editing' her work without consulting her as to why she'd used those particular spellings?

And the Downfall parodies never get old either.
