But the depressing thing is that I REALLY look like

I have the same delusion.

I used to have the most beautiful (shock horror) long real fur hat - god knows what hapened to it, and I really did believe in the Lara delusion, but i fear I looked like the beaver it belonged to. Big hats are worse, I look like Paddington.

I look like Benny, too. Only not as pretty.

Pish. You are too skinny to be Benny. You could be Miss Diane. Is that Noel Gordon in your icon?

Not quite but nearly. It's the lovely Sarah Badel.

I'd be honoured to be Miss Dianne.

I look like Benny would if he was wearing the furry hat. Which is probably even worse.

My mother hates wearing a woolly hat because *she* says it makes her look like Compo.

Me, I don't care. As long as I'm warm. And I have the The Hat Called Spock anyway.

I found a hat, which I think belongs to the same ex-housemate that I suspect of absconding with my favourite black pirate shirt. It's warm, so I shall wear it into town no matter how silly it makes me look.

I too have this delusion. However, as long as your hat brings you joy, I hope you enjoy it! :D

It is very very warm, so I am thankful

I have NO illusions about how I look.

Which is just as well because my hat is identical to the one Benny is wearing.

Julie Christie, eh? She has far too much skin showing for a Russian winter.

It's hilarious how many people remember Benny. Or a reflection of all the ancients on my flist.

I pretty much have to wear a "cloche" style furry hat, with a good brim. Anything with no bring that's just, well the same shape as my head I look ridiculous.

I've got a spectacular looking grey furry hat just now. Teamed with my miliatry cut overcoat and my heeled boots I just need a sabre and I'm ready to advance on Moscow.

Your hat sounds very nice. I wants.

We can advance on Moscow together!

LOL - this is why I only ever wear a headband - keeps my ears warm but lets all my hair poke out the top in a style reminiscent of Kylie circa 1990 XD

I think I made that hat in the second pic! My kid went off to school today in a hat crocheted by his mother. I suspect he stuffed it into the pocket of his backpack the second I was around the corner. But it was made with love!

If so he has no taste. Woolly hats are the cool.

tha's what I told him! Even if they make your hair stick up in every direction!

My hat, when I wear it, is a modified aviator's cap, close to the skin with flaps, with fur lining (real fur, it makes my coworkers MAD, for they all belong to PETA, but I do not care, for my ears are warm when it is worn). Most of the time, I just pull up the hood on my long black coat and look like a slightly tall hobbit, however.

I used to have one of those, with non fur inside - but goodness knows what happened to it! I loved it, it was so WARM.

Um... just how worrying is it that when the second picture started appearing, I knew who it was even before it'd fully unravelled? LOL. Oh, my misspent TV youth....:).

It's careful dressing, my dear...LOL.

I used to do my early homework in front of Crossroads every evening. Actually, thank you for provoking some fun family memories, Sis and I were chatting about it earlier tonight :).

My hat is fleecy rather than woolly, but I don't care what I look like. I wear it winter, spring, autumn and sometimes in the summer as well! Though now we've got a heater in our section of the warehouse, maybe I won't need it quite so much as I did...

The boss came down the other day, looked at the thermometer & said "You've reached double figures!"
...but yes, it is usually fairly cold at my work :-) I've learnt which of my t-shirts fit under which...

This is encouraging - I seriously thought it was just me!

Perhaps we should have a Benny Off - and see who looks the silliest.

Late in 2003, I saw the most gorgeoous wool/cashmere winter coat in a shop. I agonised over it for weeks because -- contrary to all rules of pragmatism and general utility -- it was pure, winter white. Every time I looked at it, I'd hear 'Lara's Theme' in my head. Seriously. I thought I'd wear it and feel like a glamorous escapee from Doctor Zhivago.

It's still a lovely coat and I wear it out if I'm dressed up. But Julie Christie, I most assuredly am not. ;)
