I can't express how excited I am about this series now. I had serious doubts about them doing this because of the scope – thought it would have the production values of Xena or Sinbad or something, but omg no, they are chucking money at it, and it needs money to be chucked. This sneak peek looks amazing.

What’s impressive is that they haven’t gone for a “beautiful” cast. When people need to be old, or middle aged, or fat, or ugly, they are.

also they made the pretty actors not pretty
look at jason momoa, he's beautiful, and they made him look like a thug - i have read the books i know he is a thug, but seriously!

at least Ser Loras of the Flowers is pretty, I'd be heart sore if he wasn't

That looks amazing! So nice to see so many Brits earning a crust too.

Advise me, oh Erastes. I've never read the books. Should I do that before I watch the show or would it be better to wait until after to avoid the 'oh what? They left out that bit?' complaints?

personally I say read the books read the books because they are fabulous and amazing and so multi-layered I don't know how his head didn't explode. (and you probably have time to get them read before the pilot) But if you are of the persuasion where bits being missed out are a problem, then possibly wait till after... I don't know - I'd say, with GRRM on as technical director, or whatever he is, and because he is the only one who knows how the series goes, anything that does get missed out (has to be something because the book is about a zillion words) won't matter in the scheme of things.

the worry is if he'll finish the series, of course.

I agree. If I'm going to be nitpicky, I'd say that Cersei and Jaime need to be more golden blond, but that's just me being picky picky. Tyrion looks brilliant, as does littlefinger - I know that Martin wanted Edward Norton for Littlefinger, but the actor (forgotten his name) has a feeling of Norton about him, and he's gorgeous to boot, having seen him in Poirot's Five Little Pigs.

Ouch, that's definitely something to worry about.

I think I'll get the books. Going by past performances with True Blood and Merlin I'll forget to watch the series. The written word is far too seductive.

I have just got hold of the audiobooks so I've 'read' them before the series starts. I had never heard of the books until the publicity started for the adaptation! Having watched the Making of (thanks!), I am very excited.

i'm very envious when people say they are reading them for the first time - they are SUCH a journey.

I don't know why they aren't HUGE worldwide best sellers. I bet after the series, they will be.

Oh, me too! Much as I love rereading them (and I generally do once a year or so, although it's been longer recently), the first time was just dazzling. I flew through the first three and was positively devastated when I got to the end of A Storm of Swords only to discover there weren't any more.

I do catch new things every time I reread, though. It's really pretty amazing.
