that is—after the arm flailing and the omgomgomgomg!!!

I love how it doesn't dash straight into the Baratheon visit—it could easily have done that, and ignored the White Walkers segment entirely, but I was thrilled to bits to see that they left it in, and gave it the weight that it deserved. For those of you not familiar with the books, they are told in largish chapter chunks in a different POV, but alternating, e.g. Bran, Catelyn, Eddard, Jon, Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion, Eddard, Bran, etc etc (that's not the actual order of the first book, I don't have it with me to check). But the books generally (always?) have a completely separate prologue, from a POV of a minor character we are unlikely to ever see again but these prologues are vital in unravelling the rest of the story. It's a very clever way of avoiding incidental pieces of backstory—because the author's world is frankly complicated enough!

What do you think? Do tell!  I'm dying to discuss this with someone.

*whines* boss is having a meeting in my office at lunchtime *stamps feet*

I've managed to get hold of ALL the other books - a lovely jumble bundle - but I'm really looking forward to seeing the show too.

LOL!! You a geek? Naaaaaah.

I love that kind of minutiae, but haven't yet read GoT often enough to remember all the details.

It looks fantastic! Everything's nicely aged, even the horses are suitably whiskery. Caitlyn has a face that has never cleansed, toned or moisturised so the arguments about her looking too old shouldn't really apply. She could easily be an unpampered 35. All the children seem to have been aged up as well. Wasn't Bran supposed to be younger?

Scary stuff, beautifully done.

I think they've aged everyone up to get away with Dany being 13 when she has sex...There was no way they were going to get away with that...

Yes, I'd thought that the Dany actress looked older than her brother in one of the clips. Probably wise. They are going to have enough criticism for the incest without making the kiddies too young.

Poor little Bran - totally over-bowed. A sensible Dad would have let him have a suitable longbow rather than that heavy compound. [iz archery geek]

I couldn't believe how quickly 14 minutes flashed by! I really liked how they adapted the Prologue, taking its essence and making it fresh. It was creepy and scary, and set the right (i.e. dark) tone for what's to come. I LOVED Winterfell and the Starks, seeing the family together- wibble- especially the interactions that explained so much about each character, e.g. Arya wordlessly converying her awesomeness, Jon's concern for Bran, Rob & Jon together, Cat looking daggers at Jon. Really, it felt like a missing scene from the book! I liked, too, how they put the focus on Bran, as though we were in his POV from the book. I must admit, I was a bit worried about Kit Harrington as Jon, mostly because he doesn't look anything like I'd imagined (similar to Robb's actor), but, having seen the preview I have changed my mind, and see him as Jon Snow.

Actually to hear Sean Bean as Ned say the Stark words, Winter is coming, gave me shivers. To be honest, though, I find it hard to watch Ned, Robb & Cat, it's just too poignant.

It just looks wonderful, the sets, costumes and performances. I am SO excited. They HAVE to at least get to Book 3.

Now we have two weeks to wait before it begins...

apparently HBO on demand has the Direwolf scene and others up on teh site, but you obviously need to have it.. and live in usa, but i'm hoping they'll leak onto youtube soon.

It all looked amazing, and if i hadn't already seen afew trailers I would be even more gobsmacked. the care and attention and obvious love they've used to produce this is incredible. It makes the horrors like the Seeker series and stuff like Xena dead in the dust. Just shows what Can be done.

I can't wait to see the Direwolves, and Dany's dragons. The books are wonderful and now we have an amazing TV adaptation, too, for a fresh perspective. GRRM must be absolutely delighted with what has been achieved. All this AND (fingers crossed) Dances with Dragons, to follow this Summer.
