argh! because my brain and fingers don't seem to want to write anything, and I have that aversion feeling everytime I think of writing…and my body gets dragged off to do anything but. It's a bit of a worry. I think I'll go back to trying to make a small target, like 500 words, and just push forward a little bit each day. I do get scared when I feel like this, that I may have "got over" writing. I used to get crazes, you see. Gardening, competition entering, things I did wholeheartedly for a few months and then just stopped, never to do again. I really really don't writing to be like that—because frankly, without writing, I'm just an unemployed clerk who didn't do anything with her life!

But Teddypig (as well as kindly buying me Dragon age 2 – grateful squee and I can't wait for it!!) has bunnied me about a fantasy. I've been re-reading The Ice and Fire Saga really, so I know I can never do anything like that—but I was thinking. I did start a fantasy story for Musemuggers – years ago. It was only a short novella and I never finished it, but there wasa lot of world building. Just maybe I could do something with that.

When I posted the other day about not having an ereader it was in no way meant as a plea for someone to buy me one. I shall make very sure that I never post "gosh i want…" something again—because someone very kind has bought me one (you know who you are)—and I'm hugely grateful. Very British that I find accepting gifts very very difficult, specially when they aren't for any reason—and I die of shame that the post made it sound like begging.  But I am hugely grateful, it will help me run Speak its Name and I promise I'll look after the reader and won't take it in the bath!!!

It was very kind of both of them. I expect I shall collapse under the weight of reading and gaming when they arrive. I'm so looking forward to Dragon age - all that pesky fighting... Just bring on the man snoggage.

I recognize the feeling you have. "Been there, done that" is the story of my life. But please don't stop writing, you write like a god. And I'm so envious. I sit here with a head full of stories and I'm such a crappy writer.

That post didn't sound anything like begging. I imagine that it was just that you do such a lot for the genre, with no reward, while going through some tough stuff at home, and someone wanted to give you something back. I think it was a great idea on their part :)

Also I would love to see a fantasy story by you. The ability to conjure up a believable other world is at the heart of it and you can do that - writing historicals is exactly the same thing.

I'm seconding/thirding/whatever the opinion that your post did not in any way whatsoever sound like you were asking for an e-reader - I understood it as a natural frustration with the manner that those of means misunderstand the tiresome and unwelcome choices which have to be made by those of less means (see the news coverage this past winter of pensioners who have had to choose between adequate heating and eating properly, and the manner in which much of the population have gone "huh?" and likely forgotten it).

Not that that will prevent you from feeling as you do - after all, you're British/English, and that's what we're like :-)

You can take your ereader in the bath. Just get a zip lock bag (regular, not freezer because they are thinner and easier to see through), put your ereader in the bag, zip it up, and voila...waterproof covering. Just make very sure you have the zipper channels zipped securely. This is also a good use for rainy days to ensure your reader doesn't get wet/damp.

Zip lock bags are also handy to use as piping bags for cupcakes/cakes, deviled eggs, etc. Just put your stuff in the bag, squeeze all the air out, zip it up, snip off one of the lower corners with however big a tip you want, and start piping. If some is left over and you want to use it later, just squeeze the stuff up, roll up the edge where you snipped the hole, secure with a binder clip/chip bag clip, and store in the friggie. Paper clips will work in a pinch, but are not as secure.

One of my ideas had been the notion of asking Speak Its Name users to contribute to a "Keep the Reviewer Reading" fund... if folks enjoyed the blog, pitch in a couple of bucks. If Wikipedia can hold fund-raising drives to keep itself going, no reason you should feel bad about it.

My view is that Speak does so much good for SO MANY of us - you deserve support when you need it. Between the promo you do that helps us all and the burden you're carrying with your dad... hon, it really is a pleasure to be able to help a friend now and then.

Yep, that's me. Only I'm a nurse, obviously. Ebay is my biggest distraction. I have to make a living somehow, lol!
