Skyrim burble for today
Dec. 7th, 2011 11:41 amThere are certain things I am good at with the Elder Scrolls games. I’m a red hot archer and can hit an enemy who hasn’t even the slightest clue I’m there from a great distance—which means I deal more damage for a sneak attack. I’m also great at lockpicking and sneaking. I’m absolutely not the kind of hero who charges into every room swinging his axe (ah-hem) wildly and roaring. I would probably drive anyone else watching me play absolutely bonkers as I do just about everything in “sneak” mode and creep so slowly around the tombs etc to avoid detection. If I have a companion I’ll let them charge ahead, take the fire while I fire off arrows from behind some cover. The slow-mode serves me well when it comes to traps because dart traps (think Indiana Jones) coming out of the walls are easily triggered but if you are creeping along you can simply stop and they run out before you get near them.
What I suck at is all out fighting, because the enemy (damn cheek) has the audacity to dance about around me and just doesn’t stay stock still in front of me so I can hack and slash at him. I don’t live very long on direct attacks, so I’m not looking forward to all the dragon slaying I have to do. I’m rather betting you can’t hide in a corner while everyone else does the work.
So, yeah – I am enjoying it a lot—but as I’d recently been playing Oblivion, it’s actually not it that much different although the graphics are a bit better – although not the sumptuousness I was expecting.
I’ll say one thing though, the horses are so slow and so bloody ugly it’s better to walk.
