If you write sex, think about condoms where appropriate.

If you are catholic, join in the swell to get the edict regarding condoms revoked.

Use. And talk about them being used. 15-20 years ago in England it was still almost an underground thing, people were still offered them in barbers, boys would feel dead embarrassed having to go into a chemists to order them.

Then came enlightenment and in particular, I remember Claire Rayner, a large, jolly and unsexy woman demonstrating how to unroll one, on BREAKFAST television.  I believe she used a banana, or a cucumber. It was a revelation.  It was suddenly Cool to buy them.  You could buy them in supermarkets, in pubs, and you no longer had to blush about it.  You were doing good.

Things like passing around the message of Safe Sex and commemorating World AIDS Day makes me love people in livejournal more. :)

I'm old enough to remember the shock of hearing newsreaders say words like 'gay' and 'condom' on TV, let alone the demonstrations of what to do with them...it was a turning point, definitely. It's just horrible that it had to happen for such a catastrophic reason.

Um. Word.

I still get embarrassed about buying condoms - probably cos I mainly blow them up in the pub for a laugh! Silly me.

But like you, I remember that shock of them suddenly becoming mainstream and instead of screaming 'I am an underage slut' the message became 'I am a responsible person, taking precautions while I have fun.' The world needs more condoms. And less unpleasant diseases.

I just wish it was more plainly said here in the US, more often.
I know a lot of the gay community are sick of hearing about it (and some of the younger ones are ignoring it, dangerously) but the ones who really need it are in no danger whatever of getting any info--the rednecks up there chanting hateful messages outside courthouses, for isntance.

I heard something about the Vatican possibly doing something about that anti-condom statement.
