Yesterday at about 11pm I reached number 2 in the best seller list in Canada.  Not even for "Gay Fiction" but for "Historical Romance"  there were Proper Historical Novelists all over the place, and then there was me.  And I ranked 1817 in books. This may not sound a lot, but I've slipped down to rank 320,000 in America, so you can see what a big deal being 1817 is.

I Love Canadians. Thanks guys, yay.

Film Night! Flushed Away

It wasn't a masterpiece, although it was pretty bloody good. I shall be buying the DVD as soon as it's out because it's one of those films that you KNOW you've missed 100 jokes because it's so fast and furious. Basic premise, spoiled pet rat gets flushed down into a sewer and has to find his way back, but in the process he finds something he's been missing. But OMG it's so much more than that.

If you don't feel like going because you feel that Ardman have sold out by laying aside the clay for the mega budgets of Disney, then yes.. perhaps they have, but to be honest, this has the fine guiding hand of Nick Park clearly behind it. The animation is very firmly in Nick Park tradition, and after a while you forget they are CGI and you notice that there are wonderful little touches like the "clay" has thumbmarks and scratches on it.

The script is very witty, and there are so many "in jokes" that you will miss them. The plot is really quite amusing ,but it's the voice actors that really make it. Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Shane Ritchie, Bill Nighy, Jean Reno, Andy Serkis, Kathy Burke, David Suchet, Miriam Margolyes.

Hugh is just excellent, really funny, really loveable - but I promise you that you will love the Slugs more than anything. If I have any moans its that we didn't see enough of Sewer London. But don't miss it. You won't be dissapointed!

I don't know. I don't know what the procedure is, whether PD Publishing will do that - I'm tied into them for the length of the contract, so I don't know what happens...

I should find out, perhaps next year.
