Mad idea.

Considering that it will probably never get published, never get looked up, never get picked up - whatever.

I think the world needs some lovely gay/slashy/homoerotic poetry. Is there any?

I have a fair selection of sonnets that I can convert from fanfic, and a couple of other pieces that would transcribe into poetry pretty easily, and they range from loving to mildly smutty.

I have people on my flist who i KNOW can write poetry, from free verse to sonnets to various other forms I've never heard of.

So what about it? What have we got to lose? I'm quite happy to do the work, here - collate, edit whatever and then start touting it around. As I say, it may do nothing, so you are taking a risk - but then again, it might sell and ...

let me know if anyone's interested.

I tell you what irritates me is that I fielded an idea to Alyson recently about putting together an anthology of masturbation, and I planned to drag in fanartists to do original pieces so it would have been a mixture of words and art and they turned me down (politely) and NOW what's on the top of the gay lists? Only a wank anthology... that's what!! And not mine!

Dude, as someone who just wrote a poem about a (male) kraken seducing drowned (male) sailors, I'm all over this!

As for the Alyson thing, that sucks (no pun intended).

Anyway I'd love to chat with you about this, just about where you'd like to take it, etc. You can email me at upstart.crow@gmail.com if you wish... are you erastes@livejournal.com?

Is there any gay love poetry??

::laughs::

Oh, hon, you really need to check out Blackwell's. They've got a whole homoerotic section. With, I might add, anthologies of gay love poetry. Large ones.

So yes, there's a market.

And I think I can convert a few poems from [livejournal.com profile] i_love_looshie...

I can't write poetry too well, but I think it's a great idea. Will give moral support and wave pom-poms.

There is gay poetry - I have an anthology of it, can't remember the title from here, but it ranges from ancient Greek to contemporary.

I've got poetry. Don't know how "gay" it is, but it's somewhat erotic in nature and could use a home. Some of it was previously published in vampire fan-zines and such. If you want to see it, I'll send it over.

I used to write a lot of poetry. Never tried the erotic variety but I suppose there's always a first time!

I think it's a great idea in any case.

Poetry! I love poems. In my bookstore I have an entire section of poetry, even if in Italy it is not a lead market. And for what I know, gay poetry is always exist. Saffo is lesbian, isn't she? and Rimbaud and Verlaine? if we read some of their poems, in particular Verlaine, we can find hint to their love. So also in our time I think must be gay poetry. ciao, elisa

My first thought was of Michelangelo's sonnets (http://www.wsu.edu/~dee/REN/MICHEL1.HTM).

The couple poets I can think of are: Louise Gluck (with her Mock Orange) and Allen Ginsberg (A Supermarket in California) XD

Love the idea. You've my e-mailaddress, I can sit down and write some things for you, though I'm not sure if it'll be what you're looking for. I write a lot of nonsense, but every now and then something comes out of it and it's decent.
