These are some of the reasons I ADORE Gene Hunt.  I shall miss Life on Mars.  They are supposed to be making a new series about 8 years later, but I wonder if it will have such wonderful one liners as this.

Your son Mrs. Bathurst was a cold-hearted killer and if there's a hell, he's going there to be poked up the arse with sharp fiery sticks, forever and ever, Amen.

He's got fingers in more pies than a leper on a cookery course.

You so much as belch out of line and I'll have your scrotum on a barbed wire plate.

(Sam to Gene) How does your wife put up with you? (Gene) It must be my legendary prowess as a lover.

Murderers do not play tennis.

There will never be a woman Prime Minister as long as there’s a hole in my arse.

(Sam to Gene) She’s as good a detective as anyone here. (Gene to WPC Cartwright) Fair enough, see if you can detect me a nice pack of garibaldis.

Don’t move, you’re surrounded by armed bastards.

You’re as nervous as a very small nun at a penguin shoot.

Sam:  (On seeing gene rush headlong, and noisily into a situation) "Havent you ever heard of the 'softly softly' approach?"  gene: "I prefer Z-cars myself!

Anything happens to this motor, I'll come around your houses and stamp on all your toys. Got it? Good kids.

"You know, if you were Pinocchio, you’d have just poked my eye out."

"What are you doing now? Listening for Indian drums?"

"I listen to the snot in my hankie before I listen to you."

"DI Frankenstein, wasn’t it? He certainly lumbered me with a monster."

"You great soft, sissy, girlie, nancy, french, bender, Man United supporting poof!"

"I've come at this from more angles than Linda Lovelace."

"I'm not a religious man Mr Warren - but isn't there something in the Bible that says, thou shalt not suck off rent boys?"

I love LOM, probably because I remember the seventies so well.

Oh God, me too. To have had a boyfriend with a flash Cortina like that would have been TOP. I was lucky if they had a Cortina Mark ONE.

God, I love Life on Mars. I always feel vageuly sorry for John Simm, though, because Philip Glenister steals every damn scene. :D

It's so true. However Simms got compensated as he's up for a BAFTA and Glenister isn't.

Wasn't it fucking BRILLIANT! I'm going to try and get it on Region One DVD for my daughter who, living in the States, has never heard of it. She will wet her fancy knickers when she sees the Gene Genie. And, by God, didn't he just steal every scene! The screen lit up when he came onto it. And HE deserves to be up for a BAFTA as well as John Simm.

He SO DOES. But I guess that would applaud the dreadful person he plays. *G*

I'd love to send a copy to American friends, but they'd definitely need subtitles!!

Heh - yes - there's so much wrong with the Hunt, but... still... he owns the screen when he's on.

*sighs happily*
