He's got obnoxious right-wing views on other matters, but he's normally smart/polite enough to keep them to himself and like-minded friends.

Date: 2007-05-09 12:15 am (UTC)It is sad. Some people can be absolutely brilliant in one respect and totally repulsive in another--but TV hardly ever shows the rotten side, and when it jumps out at you it's like finding a snake in your sock drawer.
But really, look at him. If his brain cells are as shabby as his outsides, he might have lost the part of his hard drive that had the "tact" program.

Date: 2007-05-09 12:37 am (UTC)When will someone have the balls to stand up to this and point out that having women in authority is not PC - it's actually how the world works (not as often as it should do, but it wasn't Political Correctness that put a woman into the position of Prime Minister). And will someone please explain to Mr Moore that TV isn't there to pander to his idiotic ideas of how the world should be?
There's nothing loveable about being a sexist old fart, and nothing admirable about being 'forthright' when you're spouting drivel.

Date: 2007-05-09 12:42 am (UTC)This all reminds me of Edwin Newman's discussion of British public language code--if someone is described as 'tired' he's actually drunk, and 'very tired' means he's practically insensible. I expect "forthright" translates to "the old buzzard wouldn't know a civil tongue if he got it pickled on a sandwich."
I swear, it's who owns the media companies. Over here we've got news readers --on CNN, no less--kissing George Bush's rear and calling Hillary Clinton a bitch. They're scared little boys and smart, competent women make them incapable of reproducing. Which is good for the gene pool, but it does distress the poor wretches, and they get cranky.

Date: 2007-05-09 06:52 am (UTC)Yes, but the BBC is publicly funded:

And I really don't know what this old fart is on about since if you look at the Executive Board

All but three members are men. So who these mythical wimmin are who are spoiling the silly old buggers cocoa and digestives, I have no idea. But then he probably wouldn't know a women if she sat on his face, so he might actually think 'Mark' is a girl's name.
The more I think about this story, the more angry I get. The discussion of this story

Coupled by the failure to condemn his remarks, makes me realise just how utterly sexist British society still is.
