So last night John Barrowman was on Jonathan Ross' chat show and he was just adorable. Upstaged sadly, by some supermodel with a stupid Z list show on some channel no-one can get but JB was still adorable. Any man who can laugh uproariously the way he does, and still look good has my vote.

Just been to the library. I've just about exhausted the place, I've already said how tiny it is, and it is - think of a drive in (just a drive in mind you, no sit down restaurant attached) and you'll get the idea of the size. Not even worth listing the books I picked up because they are all unknown to me, and about all I could find that wasn't a Dan Brown or a Nora Roberts clone. Will have to start making the effort and go to the Millenium Library in Norwich, perhaps after work once a fortnight or something.

Lucius has buried himself in the middle of the ironing. Lili is trying to ascertain why the ironing is moving and has gone in to find out. Soon I'll have lost two cats to the laundry basket. Yep. She's gone. Severus is out in the sunshine, lets hope he doesn't see Lili sleeping with Lucius!!

I'm watching Mel Gibson's Hamlet. Stellar cast, but Gibson fails to convince. I don't like old Australian Hamlets. Sorry. So have turned over to the wonderful Mrs Miniver. Never understood the casting of Walter Pigeon in that film, though. Never. However, am pondering doing a gay historical on Hamlet. Has there been one?

ETA: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] liriaen for letting me know about this film - Asta Nielsen as Hamlet - now THIS androgynous Hamlet is one I can definitely write. I must get this film!!!!

More ETA: Interesting plot of the film, to get past the censors I suppose, Hamlet is actually a woman in this film. Raised as a boy and only Gertrude and Hamlet know that she's a woman....

I don't know if there has been one, but I'd cheerfully read yours.

I know that there have been a few fanfics I've seen, but I think there's potential for a novel - in the light of the success of Mordred Bastard Son...

I have too many projects!!

Actually, I figured Hamlet/Laertes had a history and bad breakup -- that's why he warned Ophelia so strongly against him: bitter experience. [Actually, I had that idea after watching a production of Hamlet -- notice some of the language they use to refer to one another

I've seen amateur Hamlet-slash (see [livejournal.com profile] bard_slash), mostly Ham/Laertes or Ham/Horatio, but know of nothing professional. I say go for it!

Nod nod nod - I was wondering why, watching the film, Laertes was QUITE so set against Hamlet. he kept emphasising how he was a Prince and would marry well etc etc - perhaps Hamlet used that excuse as to why they couldn't continue their relationship. Then when he started to look at Ophelia, it would make Laertes even angrier.

Hmmmm....

Not sure about gay historical Hamlet (there might be sth over at the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide archives?) - but you might enjoy watching the b/w silent movie with Asta Nielsen as Hamlet. It gives the whole thing an unusal twist (especially considering the time when it was shot), and the visuals are starkly beautiful. :)

So much prettier than cookymouth Olivier, I dare say. :D Apparently they've discovered a handcoloured version not too long ago. (And I missed its showing in Frankfurt the other day, woe!) This site even has contemporary (1921) reviews, alas, they're in German. It's been a while since I saw it; of course it's OTT, in grand expressionist mode, but it made me cry, too. The grand soliloquies as silent titles... that's irony, indeed! :D

You've inspired me to NetFlix all my favorite movie adaptations of Shakespeare. I used to be obsessed with the Bard... I miss those days.

I did write an epic fantasy version of "Much Ado About Nothing" (it's at Loose Id, called "The Finest Line"). Now I'm into homoerotic fiction, I've got a yen to rewrite it with male protagonists, as well as others.
