Have come home from work at lunchtime. Just felt horrid. Mild stomach upset last night and I thought it had worn off, but it made me feel worse as the day went on - got to lunchtime and I'd just had enough.

I'm going to go and collapse into bed with "An Agreement between Gentlemen" by Chris Owen, which looks at first glance to be another "everyone's gay and everyone's fine about it" book, but we'll see.

I've heard a lot of squee recently about Brethren and Matelots Raised by Wolves - are they worth getting?

I'm not going to cave into misery about the latest gloom and doom in the gay publishing world, I'm not. All I can continue to do is to promote, read and write gay fiction. I can't do a lot more than that.

Sorry your not feeling well. I'm not a writer, but am happy to support gay fiction by buying and reading as much of it as I can! I'm just now settling into work with coffee, etc. Isn't the PoTC this weekend? I hope you getter better in time! (Nobody told me the 2nd movie was the cliffhanger that it was, but I'm looking forward to #3)

Still not sharing that Poledancer, uh? dang.

It is a bit on the everybody's gay and everyone's ok with it (we need an abbreviation: egaeowi doesn't work very well) but it is also well written and has some nice erotic scenes. I hope you enjoy it.

Doom and gloom is cyclical. We've made it this far, we'll make it further. You can't overrespond to the cycle.

Eugh, hope you feel better soon. Soda water and cream crackers, decrees the queen of sick headaches.

Have not read An Agreement between Gentlemen; be curious to hear if it is any good.

I read Brethren and just got Matelots. They are heavy going at first but become fairly compulsive as you go along. There is a lot of historical and boat-related detail which appears to be well-researched (though some of the technical stuff about sailing manoeuvres left this Hornblower fan frankly confused). Stylistically they are written in a manner that might be called seventeenth century. Mostly she keeps this up. I quite like it but it might begin to grate on some readers. The erotic content seemed a bit thin, like her heart wasn't really in it. Maybe that will improve (I'm only a few chapters into no. 2). Romance laid on with a trowel, though, which I do like!

They are also good and thick. I do like a fat book.

Oh yes, discerning literary criticism there.

We didn't know about the cliffhanger either and when it finished we were screaming at the screen!!

Yes, Thursday, tickets bought, piratey hats ordered.

Perhaps "EyGay" or something. And yes the writing looks pretty good, so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.

As it were. I've heard good things about Bareback but I'm trying to get through the historicals first.

And yes - the gays will be published by someone, and if these publishers DO go down, heaven forbid, it will give the smaller ones more scope. Like big trees falling ina forest.

Thanks hun. I'll go and sleep and see how I feel after that.

I love your literary criticism! They sound rather impressive if the language is old fashioned. So I'll order them both next month. Thank you!

AAAG is somewhat of an "everyone's gay..." novel, but there are repercussions for some.

(I have to admit a bias here -- I edited it.)

Oh, and speaking of books, I got City of Bones in deliveries yesterday. I wonder if I'll be able to get past the first 3 chapters.

Er... I'm a bit out of the loop, I think. I apologize for prodding a hot button, but what's the current misery about gay publishing?

Hoping you feel better!

I'm enjoying it so far, I like the ultimatum and the reason he sets out to seduce Langton - and it's nicely written too, which gets a thumbs up so far!

You are braver than me. I never thought of getting it from the library, but I object to even paying 60pence reservation fee for it....

I look forward to your impressions.

John Barrowman was on tv the other night talking about him being in Oklahoma and they'd sing: "I'M a Homo"

So perhaps our code should be OKHOMO!!

I have bought An Agreement between Gentleman some months ago, but I have not read it yet. I like very much Chris Owen: Bareback, 911, Gemini are beautiful, but recently I read Rough Draft and it's wonderful... and they are ALL contemporary, so, somewhat, I feels uncomfortable to read an historical by her. I know it's strange and I really can't explain it, but the feeling remain.

LOL!

There aren't all that many actors I want to see live on stage -- but he is definitely on the list. If you wanted to make a graphic for all the way out of the closet, he'd be the poster boy!

Great article, and of course I just had to thank him. And mouth off asking questions, but it's so often the same thing, for me.

Butting in here a few days later, but as I see that you like Chris Owen's contemporary novels: I've really like Adagio by her which has been published by www.casperianbooks.com
