Have come home from work at lunchtime. Just felt horrid. Mild stomach upset last night and I thought it had worn off, but it made me feel worse as the day went on - got to lunchtime and I'd just had enough.
I'm going to go and collapse into bed with "An Agreement between Gentlemen" by Chris Owen, which looks at first glance to be another "everyone's gay and everyone's fine about it" book, but we'll see.
I've heard a lot of squee recently about Brethren and Matelots Raised by Wolves - are they worth getting?
I'm not going to cave into misery about the latest gloom and doom in the gay publishing world, I'm not. All I can continue to do is to promote, read and write gay fiction. I can't do a lot more than that.

Date: 2007-05-22 01:45 pm (UTC)As it were. I've heard good things about Bareback but I'm trying to get through the historicals first.
And yes - the gays will be published by someone, and if these publishers DO go down, heaven forbid, it will give the smaller ones more scope. Like big trees falling ina forest.

Date: 2007-05-22 01:39 pm (UTC)Have not read An Agreement between Gentlemen; be curious to hear if it is any good.
I read Brethren and just got Matelots. They are heavy going at first but become fairly compulsive as you go along. There is a lot of historical and boat-related detail which appears to be well-researched (though some of the technical stuff about sailing manoeuvres left this Hornblower fan frankly confused). Stylistically they are written in a manner that might be called seventeenth century. Mostly she keeps this up. I quite like it but it might begin to grate on some readers. The erotic content seemed a bit thin, like her heart wasn't really in it. Maybe that will improve (I'm only a few chapters into no. 2). Romance laid on with a trowel, though, which I do like!
They are also good and thick. I do like a fat book.
Oh yes, discerning literary criticism there.
