My local writing community Gatehouse is having another competition - a poetry one - they are challenging you to make a poem purely from a list - SEE HERE for details. Winning entry wins a book - and there are no entries yet!

Thank you for the link! What an interesting challenge! Is it only for members of your community or can anyone participate?

Anyone can join, it's free, and it's not just for the UK or for local writers!

It's for anyone? Good news! :-)

I wrote a poem (three versions of the same thing, to be honest), totally different from the wonderful example in the link, with a very loose interpretation of the meaning of "list". I feel a bit forward for asking, but may I ask if you would have the time to give it a beta-check and tell me what you think? I would thank you forever, even if you tell me it's rubbish! Feel free to say no, if you are too busy or if poems are not your kind of thing - it's probably not good enough for the competition anyway. And a last warning: it doesn't rhyme and someone gets killed.

That poem...is utterly mesmerising as a chanted thing.

Fabulous.

It's interesting isn't it? I'm planning one with collective nouns....

I was once looking at the bit in the telephone directory where they give you the codes for different exchanges, and realised that, with a tiny bit of moving around out of alphabetical order, the exchanges beginning with Q made two lines of a poem. Sort of.

Quainton, Queensbury, Quedgeley and Quatt,
Queen's Head, Quidenham and Quorn.

But I could never make anything else go with it.

I like it!

How about doing a 26 section poem, two lines per letter.
