Ooo. An Agent's asked to see a partial. And they aren't blacklisted on Preditors & Editors - Good Times!

To add to the 2 articles we already have in our "nuts and bolts" section of the Erotic Authors Assocation website - I'd like to add a list of "Things I wish I'd known when I started out"

Things like:

  • Some review sites/magazines/papers will only review your book before its published.
  • Check your agent on Preditors & Editors before going any further with them.
  • Learn how to format your document.

All that sort of thing. Things that we've had to learn through hard knocks and experience. Things we wish we'd KNOWN.

Any suggestions to add to the list? I'll credit, happily.

Take the time to research a publisher, esp. thier financials, track record, and other books they've published, before getting all tickled that they're going to publish you. (ESPECIALLY if you're working without an agent)

Learn the real names of the editors you work with whenever possible, and keep one eye on their careers -- you will run into bad apples and knowing who they 'really' are allows you to avoid working with them twice. (Esp. true in erotica)

Also: congrats on the agent wanting to see the partial1
