1, SO ILL. Got a chill. Shivery, headache, temperature. Horrid.  Note to Self: You know bloody well that if you've got an 'eadache and then a sore throat that something is around the corner, right. YOU KNOW THIS.  But no. You felt fine this morning and buggered off to Dad's. When are you going to learn to listen to your body as it seems to know you better than you do, apparently.  This Erastes. This: Smack on Head.

2. rwday's back, (YAY) and she's been reading vampire trash and semi trash on the planes.  She wanted to know why oh why oh why Vampires (and other immortals) are always Fuck Off Gorgeous.  "I mean, why are all vampires or other races of immortal beings always drop dead gorgeous?  Because they live long enough to save up for good plastic surgery?  That Darkhunter book was really bad that way - here you have all these creatures trying to pass for human and they all look like supermodels.  Wouldn't it be easier to go around unnoticed if they looked like plumbers and shopclerks?"

I thoroughly agree - I've often considered that there needs to be Clique Vampires, Bimbos, Jocks and Spotty Herberts who thought they'd be beautiful for ever, but it just froze them in time exactly as they were.  *guffaws *

My theory was this: if a vampire is going to make an immortal companion said vampire might as well pick some pretty eye-candy to look at for eternity.

The vampire story I wrote recently played with that and the vampires were all vain, self-obsessed, shallow little sexual deviants.

I like the vampires in Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse books. Some of them are gorgeous, yes, but it's natural. And then ... she produces Bubba. Just don't call him That Other Name. And don't ask him to sing...

I think _Interview with a Vampire_ was my first book with major homoerotic subtext, and it wouldn't have been the same if Lestat and Louis hadn't looked like, well, vampires. (Anne, wtf is up with Lestat going down on that witch?! Not. Happy. ...oh, he was there for the blood, well, that's alright then.)

Don't read past, like, the third or fourth book. Don't touch the Mayfair books - Anne Rice tries to make Lestat straight!

*Do* read _Cry to Heaven_, which is a historical novel about castrati. It gives the impression of being well-researched. Probably my favorite Anne Rice, esp considering the ending, in which all the sexual deviants end up together and happy : )
