Waking up to bad news
Jan. 23rd, 2008 08:17 amHappy Birthday
aunty_marion! Have a lovely day!
I'm stunned by Ledger's death, I'm sure my flist will be full of it today, but it's such a tragic waste of talent. Just. No words, really.
And I'm extremely miffed with people who can't meet their committments. I'm going to have a mini rant because I loathe unprofessionalism even in fanfic. You see, we started
deadlyhollow months ago. Months and months and months. We asked for sign ups and we filled the schedule with people who "couldn't wait" to spork. Everyone was fine with their assignments. No-one said they couldn't manage it - and although we had meant to get the comm off the ground in October, we didn't actually start posting until January. Now we find that some people just haven't done the work, and haven't (despite
gehayi posting regularly with "if you can't manage it, it doesn't matter - but please let us know so someone else can step in") and don't even have the politeness or the stones to just email us personally and tell us in advance. Way to get our respect, guys. Remind me to never include
empressov or
oblivionhold in any future projects with deadlines.
I would think that it goes without saying that if you sign up for something, that you do what you've pledged to do, or you write and give your apologies as to why you haven't. Hell - I'm the first one to understand that shit happens and that sometimes it's just impossible and you realise that you've bitten off more than you can chew - there have been many times, particularly in fandom when I've signed up for a ton of stuff and just drowned under the pressure. I'm not sitting here saying "ner ner ner I've never let anyone down" because I have. But I did have the professionalism to own up to the fact that I was a pratt and let the Mods know. If people can't do this on a amateur basis, then the big bad world of professional writing is not going to be the place for them.
