Date: 2008-02-23 10:00 pm (UTC)I found Olivier too stuffy to ever win Elizabeth over. Matthew MacFadyen, although more attractive, had the opposite problem: I thought he didn't come across as even superficially proud or arrogant, and was much too open in his manner. That was partly due to the script of the 2005 version, which took ridiculous liberties with the dialogue. "You have bewitched me, body and soul" is just not something Darcy would say, for example.
Colin Firth, on the other hand, was ju-u-ust right.

Date: 2008-02-25 03:18 am (UTC)Have you read Pamela Aiden's fanfic trilogy about Darcy? She said that she was inspired to write them after seeing Colin Firth's Darcy. She said something like his performance made her realize that his inner struggle might be worth writing about.
