Worried

Severus had a seizure at 10pm.

He just fell sideways off the windowsill and scrabbled around on the floor for what seemed like ages but was only about 10 seconds before I rushed over to him and grabbed him. He couldn't stand up, he just lay on his stomach, grabbing onto the carpet as if he was going to fall off his tongue coming out and his head waving from side to side. It was terrifying. I held him for a couple of minutes until he started to struggle and then he stood up - still a little wobbly - and went outside. I sat and worried horribly - went outside and called - but couldn't find him and then 30 mins later he trotted back in, as right as ninepence.

REALLY SCARY. And yes, I'm taking him straight to the vet on Monday morning. I have no idea if he's had one before, as I work full-time. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gehayi for finding me this page, which at least reassures me I'm doing the right thing. Here's hoping they do bloodwork and it's managable by pills. Thank god my dad will help me with the expense.

I've never had a sick cat before, other than RTAs and it's very daunting. Wish us luck.

This picture btw is NOT him having a seizure, but merely yawning - or, doing his Isaac from Heroes impression.

Wish you luck.

Poor Severus. Here's hoping that it's manageable. My aunt and uncle's dog has epilepsy and takes pills.

Oh dear, how worrying. I hope he'll be OK, and that the vet can find out what it is and treat him for it, whatever it is.

Unless it was the Dark CatLord calling him, of course...

Sounds like a grande mal seizure. I had an epliptic cat for years. The vet prescribed daily medication and she was fine. My momma has an epileptic dog. Same thing. It's actually not unusual.

One warning. Watch trying to grab them unprotected during a seizure. I have some serious scars on my arms from not thinking. It's terrifying when it happens. Our first instinct is to pick them up and comfort them. However, you bleeding won't help Severus.

I'm sure the vet will recommend medication. Try not to worry too much, if that's possible. Keep an eye on him until Monday.

Hugs to you both!

i didn't grab him, I just immobilised him as best as I could - kept him flat on the floor but sort of laid on top of him. I have a friend with epilepsy, so sort of treated him in the same way as I ever do with her, just stopped him from trying to stand up and bash into things.

Poor baby, i wonder what on earth he's been though!

Eep, poor thing! I used to house-sit for a kitty who had seizures and even knowing from the owner what to expect, they were so scary; the poor cat seemed so helpless.

It's not terribly uncommon, little as that will reassure you, but most of the time they seem to be manageable with medicine or dietary changes.

I hope he's just fine. ^_^

I can guess your worry. I hope he won't have seizure again, or at least, will get it at safe place(on floor etc).
My dog had the same disease from 4th month of birth. People said that he must be killed, but I kept him. He lived 13 years. Thanks to medication he had less seizure later.
It must pains you while watching him suffering. I know. I hope again the veterinarians will give him the best care to him. Wishes :)

Don't worry

From: [identity profile] kellkatkins.livejournal.com
Try not to worry. Cats can have epilepsy and just like in humans it can be treated. I am sure even if he does have epilepsy or something like it things will be fine. You will just have to fight with him every day to get him to take a pill. We all know how fun that is!!

I would be terrified if something like that happened to one of mine. So let us know what the Vet says.

He is gorgeous!

Cheers,
Kell

Oh god yes, that is such a scary sight! Seen an epilepsy attack with a cat once before and that already scared me stiff. Imagine if it is *your* cat!

Am wishing you both all the luck in the world! Hope it can be managed with pills. (Have no idea, really)
Will keep my fingers crossed.

Oh, God, how scary! I hope he's okay - I saw on that website that seizures can be caused by toxic chemicals, so maybe he just ate something nasty and that will be the end of it.

I hope it's not poison! He seems as right as rain now, but hopefully the blood tests will reveal anything untoward.

Your cat is channeling Archie Kennedy?

Seriously, that must have been terrifying. I hope the vet can get him on meds that settle his poor little brainwaves. I have a diabetic cat, and the insulin every 12 hours is a nuisance but at least the problem can be controlled.

*laughs* Trust you!

I hope it's something and nothing but hopefully some blood tests will tell me.

*hugs!*

I know what its like to have a sick kitty, mine just got over a bladder infection and I was a wreck, it wasn't anything serious but you can't but help do the "what ifs" and yah it was very hard on me.

but it usually turns out better than you expect!

I hope Severus is okay! give him a hug from all of us :D
