Yesterday: Been reading ALL day. Didn't even have the TV on. Half way through Assassin's Quest, the final book of the Farseer Trilogy and I suspect that this is the one that one of my flist said was the duff one of the three. It's not duff, exactly, but probably would have benefited from being split and creating a quartet. It's all a bit over repetitive now, I'd have liked to have seen Fitz doing something a bit more varied than just getting captured and injured ad infinitum. And I'm sooo disappointed as to what the Elderlings turned out to be.

Why does benefited only have one t? That's stupid.

Today.....Finished it. *snuffles*  It was rather too much questing and a little too rushed of an ending. I still think it would have been better as four books.  I was wistful and bittersweet and a bit weepy about Fitz's ending, but I think he will come around once more. Kettle did say that he would love again. (Personally I hope it's with the Fool, of course) and wrapping himself in his hurt and his experiences before forging on with his life. He's too much of a man to let himself stay a scribe, and I think that after Nighteye's death he will move on and find a new life for himself.

I'm rather glad he didn't end up with Molly, she was far too acid for him, and she drove me mad with her shrew-like ways.  It was a childish love and I don't think she would have ever accepted him back, or if she had, her nature would split them apart. So all in all, I really enjoyed them, Fitz stays with me, as will Burrich specifically. I don't know if I'll read any more of Hobb, though, unless someone really recommends some.w

Weeeell, if you ever decide to pick up the Tawny Man trilogy, the follow -p to Farseer... that'll be super-slashtastic.

*delurks*

Yes! Agree completely with the above, do read it! Tawny Man is my favourite of her trilogies. I love the Fool so, so much. (And other characters, of course - but the Fool just... is wonderful.)

I do too - I love him so much when he teases Fitz particularly

Yes :) lots of him in the Tawny Man trilogy, whee!

I'm rereading the Farseer Trilogy at the moment, I've reread the books quite a few times, and I think I love them a bit more each time. I don't know why so many people don't like/are lukewarm about them - yes, they have their flaws but I think the greatness very much outweighs those. But that's just me!

Also, I don't know if you know that the Liveship Traders Trilogy is set in the same world and comes after Farseer and before Tawny Man. It has lots of new/different characters though and is in a completely different part of the world. Events/characters from it are referred to in the Tawny Man trilogy, but I don't think that you have to read Liveship first - if you want more Fitz/Fool and other characters you already know and love, I'd go to Tawny Man first and then Liveship Traders later.

Thank you! I think I'll read Tawny Man first and see how I feel. I'm invested in these characters and don't know if I fancy going off and finding new ones, not yet at least.

it was the ferret that owned me
I loved the ferret!
I'm hoping that's the right series, I do remember being bored silly and thinking the third one was silly, and I'm the one that told you it was duff, it was duff compared to the other two

I liked the live ship books, what's cute about them is the duff one is the first one, the second and third are brilliant, I loved the madship
I read them before I got into slash, as they came out, I have them all in hardback

david eddings elenium is very slashy, he's a great writer, his dialogue sparkles but he has one plot and he uses it over and over, which detracts, only the first three series are worth reading becuase of it because after that you've been there, done that

JV Jones is good
Melanie Rawn has canon gay characters but I don't think she'll ever finish the exiles series
Tad Williams is brilliant, his first trilogy genuinely shines
but I am completely pwned by Guy Gavriel Kay
