[livejournal.com profile] gehayi was just saying that if my cat Severus was a fictional character (life imitating art, imitating life etc) he'd be in something by Bronte or Austen.

I did a description of him which made us both laugh - and I think this might be a very good way to create new characters!  I can actually see this young man.

Severus: 1850. Norfolk
Slender and tall, Severus lives in the country with his mother and his sister.  He's slightly nervous, affectionate and clumsy but is attractive in an unusual way with large hands and feet.  He has a fondness for the outside, bird and butterfly watching in particular and takes long walks daily alone no matter what the weather. He often returns home soaked and muddy to the despair of his family. He gets on very well with women but is wary of strange men. He's devoted to his sister, and behaves much younger than his years in a very boyish fashion when he's around her.  When in company  he tends to have an inappropriate sense of humour and will eat too much to cover his embarrassment. He had a brother to whom he was devoted, and who he sadly lost when he was younger. Although he seems to have forgotten him, sometimes he jumps to attention when he hears the door latch sound.

Lili: 1920s
Lili is extremely beautiful in an unusual way. With hair so white as to be almost silver and with bright green eyes she gives off an other-worldly look - sometime seeming to hold secrets that she'll never tell.  Probably because of her heritage, she's a little bit fey - hearing and seeing things in her house that no-one else can see. She was born in Spain and moved to the East of England as a young girl.  She's never quite acclimatised to England and feels the cold keenly, even on days in the summer when the sun doesn't shine.  Her favourite room in the house is the morning room where she sits with the sun on her face.   She lives with her adopted brother who she teases remorselessly and barely tolerates.  She's possibly agoraphobic (caused by a childhood incident where she was locked in a coal shed for months) and never leaves the house, even on the warmest days. She's very chatty and seems unable to keep her opinions to herself.

I challenge you: Describe your pet and create your own character - doesn't have to be a historical one, of course.
