I had a caffeine drink and I'm buzzing like a buzzy thing.
Someone must have recommended this film, Perfect Creature to me - I thought it had been on the thread where I discussed "The Vampyre" - but I've just looked there and no...
Anyway - whoever it was - thank you! I really enjoyed it.
It's a fascinating concept and any Steampunk lovers should certainly check it out. It's not "classic" steampunk - but the world is definitely held back when it comes to technology - there are airships, not planes, and the guns, and cars are from the early part of the 20th century when it's clear that some factions have more sophisticated stuff . Genetic research has been banned because it brought plagues and "bad things" - it also created a new race of beings - vampires in essence. A genetically advanced race who drink blood but are stronger, faster and more intelligent than homo sapiens. Only boys are born, so although they are very longlifed, they know they might die out. When they were first discovered, 300 years before, there was widespread panic and children were burned at birth, however they were actually a pretty peaceful race and decided to help humanity, protect them - became part of their church and are a power behind the government. They hold services where the congregations willingly give their blood to The Brothers. No vampire has ever killed a human. Until now. One of "the brothers" is given licence to dabble in genetic research again to try and create some way of reproducing - this mutates and he is infected with some pathogen, which - before it becomes lethal, turns him into a killer. The humans and the vampires have 2 days to try and stop him before the humans find out and panic hits the streets.
So- thoroughly enjoyable. My only complaint was that it was too short and I wanted to know MORE. The official website is very informative - (don't look at the Wikipedia entry and it outlines the entire film) - and if you are into steampunk, Dougray Scott and Vampires - don't miss this one.
I have a guardian egg! Hurrah!
