Transgressions Edit part two done!  Two more parts to do.  It's given me a headache, however, which is something I rarely get. In my eye. Would that be an eyeache and not a headache?  I have pink wine now so the pain is subsiding...

And just when I thought "Merlin" couldn't get any slashier - it DID! Now we have Lancelot - who is EXACTLY "my" Lancelot!

*fans self*  What I like about this programme is that they are (for the moment, at least) keeping the women out of it and concentrating on the whole love and loyalty between Merlin-Arthur-Lancelot. *fans self again* which seems to manifest itself into lots of smouldering looks. Yes - it's silly but it's very watchable. *is ashamed*

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good yahoo chat group to promote on?  Me and the Macaronis have been promoting on various in the last few months and it's a complete waste of time. No-one comments, no-one talks, no-one asks any questions - the last one I did a giveaway competition and no-one even bothered to enter. I couldn't GIVE a book away.  Today we are on Coffee Time Romance and are having the same problems - just ... silence about from each other and the Moderator. 'tis depressing.

I admit it goes a lot better when you're on your second can of Boddingtons :) I save drinking for chat nights now, so I don't get the existential despair.

That might be because Yahoo Groups makes it difficult to get into the chat.

This is what I ran into:

1. You've reached an Age-Restricted Area of Yahoo! Groups

This area contains material of a mature and adult nature the may not be suitable for younger users. You must be over the age of 18 to access this area of Yahoo! Groups.

By clicking the "I Accept" button below, you certify that you are at least 18 years of age. If you are under the age of 18 or do not wish to continue, select "I Don't Accept" below and you will be returned to the Yahoo! Groups home page.

To learn more about protecting children online, please see our Resources for Parents.

I clicked "I Accept."

2. Please verify your password.

Okay. I verified it.

3. To enjoy this Web-only feature of karendevinkaren, you need to enable Web Access.

With Web Access, you'll enjoy your group's online photos, polls, links, message archive search, and more!

Get Web Access to karendevinkaren

If you already receive email from karendevinkaren, it's easy to get Web Access and make your Yahoo! Group experience complete.

To activate Web Access for karendevinkaren, click "Get Started Now".

If you are not currently a member of karendevinkaren, join this group now.

At this point it just seemed like too much of a pain in the ass to get into the chat, and I walked away. I have to join a new group that I've never heard of just to talk to people? Not exactly an open chatroom.

I've never had that problem - never even heard of web access!

But the thing is, that group has 1148 members - we've promoted on groups with twice that number - so you'd think someone would be interested. Some days my inbox is flooded with 100s of emails from these silent groups.

Yes, I don't know what the trick is to get the lurkers to talk. I wonder if it's a m/m v m/f thing, or if those authors just bring a cheering section along with them?

That's true. I got some mails from friends who had the same problems. Plus you can't just join - you have to answer *questions* before you can even apply, and then you'll have to wait for approval.

I think the good old "I'm on YIM, folks, anybody who wants to talk to me next Friday can" thing is still the best thing.

The whole group chat thing is so discouraging and I doubt they do more than get your name out there. Which is a good thing but with writing time soon to hit the "hard to come by" category in the real life realm, I don't see any large benefits of the list chats.

I think you are right, they take up more time than I can spare, really - perhaps I'll just make it a new year resolution to cut down on them - thanks!

Oh that show is so slashy, it's great! I certainly hope it's not the last we've seen of Lancelot, he was brilliant with both Merlin and Arthur.

Isn't it? I don't think for one moment it can be an accident. I think it's good that he's gone off to prove himself. best case scenario, Gwen and Morgana get bopped off next week and the men have to console themselves.

These larger groups do seem to have a lot of lurkers - but they're generally effective for promotion. The approval system is a pain... I haven't had any trouble after I signed on, though, and I'd rather have screening at the beginning because it keeps out a lot of truly gruesome porn spamming.

People do read the digests. Every time I do one of these chats, the sales figures on Amazon go up a day or two later. It's time-consuming but I think it's worth it.

I suppose so, it's just a little disheartening.

I only had one entry for my prize, but she asked for Ransom, and that's got sequels. My best guess is that the chat loops are like a lot of fan fiction lists -- people who just aren't comfortable writing, or don't have any inclination to participate--they just want something good to read. And that's okay, actually--if someone likes my excerpts well enough to buy the book, so much the better!

No worries hun!

I wonder if it's worth doing a group chat on my website or something instead? Or would I sit there - as I often did in my teens - waiting for no-one to turn up!

I must say the Yahoo Groups thing did put me off too. Like a person above says...it was a long way round to get in somewhere. I did think I was just being thick at the time. I did wonder if AOL was stopping me somehow as now since we've changed to O2 being our provider I've noticed certain website/funds/updates happening one hell of a lot faster.

I guess it would be all down to everyone being available at the same time. That can be poo to sort out :(

I missed half of Merlin *sob* because the bloody Beeb keep changing the start time! But yes, Lancelot, yum. He looks almost like a dark-eyed younger version of Franco Nero, who was my Dream Male for many years. Anyway, I will forgo an hour of snooker this afternoon to catch the repeat at 3pm, because he was indeed yum and I want to know why he'd got himself locked up and why Uther doesn't like him. Also, Anthony Head looks positively yum himself in pseudo-mediaeval garb.

It's all so testosteroney isn't it? I LOVE Hard-as-Nails Giles. Now that's how he should have been with Buffy.

And I missed the first five or ten minutes *AGAIN* because the first frame of the snooker went on longer than I'd anticipated! So I had to resort to the BBC iPlayer instead.

I wanna see Uther's backstory with Nimueh.

And me too - hope they show that at some point! I hate to say I'm enjoying it as much as I am - a definite improvement from robin hoodie.
