True Blood and self-sporkage
Oct. 28th, 2008 03:10 pmSo, I've seen episode one, at least! Pretty good! Interesting so far, and I'll carry on with it. However couldn't they pick ANOTHER name for the Vampire than Bill? Are all the vampires called William in vampire land? I liked the way she laughed at him and said "I was expecting it would be Antoine or something like that." Bill the Biter is nicely broody, but a bit too hairy for my taste. I do like Anna Paquin, and I like that she's not uber hot. And gay chefs with a bear fetish - love it! I love HBO. Has to be said.
God. Caffeine drinks. wow!

Why has this character got a French name? Is she French? No! *points to the 17th century* Imbécile!
Behooved? Great word! *snort* and it has two os. Word can spell better than you! Nyah!
Tell me, oh great writer - how does a person hiss when there are no sibilants in his words? Hmm?
See this? --> . That is a FULL STOP. See this? -->> , That is a COMMA. Say it after me. COM-MA. LEARN THE BLOODY DIFFERENCE!
Similarly despatch vs dispatch.
ETA: Oh - and I know it's not "done" to talk about writerly earnings, but I banked £400 this month in royalties and fees. Now - if I had four books out there doing as well as Standish - I'd be self-supporting! Whee! Of course if I wrote more instead of just gassing....wanders off...

Date: 2008-10-28 05:17 pm (UTC)Uhhh... yeah, that's my problem, I'm pissing about rather than writing.
And I used to make good royalties, until my former main publisher blew up so to speak.
My can't be missed show is Sons of Anarchy, about a biker gang. Much fun, at least to me.

thanks again!

Date: 2008-10-29 01:16 pm (UTC)Alvisi, then…well, he is Italian, which always helps, but to elaborate, anyone whose opening line is a quote from the Merchant of Venice is something worthy of note in my humble opinion. He is dark, mysterious and villainous, and every time he showed up on the page, I could see his slimy, slithery, sinuous movements. Then we have his lines! The ‘Udolpho’ quote is my favourite, but everything he comes out with is just…! And the most comic line in the entire novel is about him, which was:
‘Calais was not the place to conceal a strangled Italian Count…’
I have one complaint, but you probably know what that is…but nevertheless I agree that he probably did have to/deserve to/ die.
Even so, I’d absolutely love to know more about him, so if the mood ever strikes you to write about his various questionable adventures then rest assured you have at least one taker and probably many more **grins**
I read some of your reviews on Amazon before I bought the book, and I think some people did say they liked him before. So perhaps he is more popular than you think, but this would please him I daresay : )
