ETA: Just heard back from the local paper - they want me to ring them and tell them about Lucius and his mysterious journeys!

Lucius the Wanderer is back. Again.

Three months almost the day, I think... *checks* 25th July it was when he came back last, and he stayed 2 weeks. He's in beautiful condition, if a little too light, and very hungry.  He hasn't even got a flea dirt on him, so it's clear he's not living rough because someone is obviously treating him. God it's good to see him. I even had a feeling yesterday that he'd be back today -or perhaps it was because he knew I wanted him back today that he came back today. He won't stay, and the balance in the house is disturbed all over again, but still nice to see him.

I know how unlikely it sounds, even to myself. I've been fooled by so many stupid sock puppet stories. What I think I'll do is write to the local paper - it's a "local interest" story which they might like - and it would be good to know who else is fostering him.  I will definitely get a collar this time - with one of those little barrels with my phone number and a tiny message in it - at least then someone can ring me and tell me he's safe.  There's never going to be a way I can force him to stay- although I really wish he would. He's stuffed his face, and now he's in his basket. I can never face putting his basket away, just in case "today" is the day he comes home. I do wish he'd stay.

Severus is, of course, upset again.  It's really not fair.

True Blood.  Aww Billy-Bob the Vampire is such a gennleman caller! *squishes him*

Only a few sporks today.Tired, and I think I can see the end of it.

- they are sitting in a lighted room in a busy street in the dark. They kiss. They embrace. THEN they shut the curtains. er. No. 17th century remember?
- if he strips off down to his under-breeches, hose and shirt, he can't be wearing his ordinary breeches when he wakes up.
- What, pray, is a "half-wounded adversary"?

How are you liking True Blood? I loved the books, but I've been feeling some trepidation about getting into the series, in case they ruined it for me.

Haven't read the books, so I'm just enjoying them on their merits. LOTS of sex, and gore, and I'm only on epi 3 - but it's intriguing.

The series is actually real close to the books, a lot closer than other series based on books are. There are side storylines not in the books and in the series Tara is a lot bigger character and very different person than in the books too.

But I really am enjoying the series so far.

Aw, bless his furry tummy! He's come back to you for Hallowe'en! How sweet...

Yes, get him a collar and tag/barrel. If nothing else, it would be interesting, if anyone does phone you, to see just where he's been. (Ditto on the local paper thing, of course.)

Monster. I love him being here, but poor Sevvie doesn't.

Perhaps he only stays with anyone for 2 weeks at a time. What I find is strange is that he was with me for a whole year before he started this behaviour. I need a cat whisperer.

I am so happy for you that your wanderer has returned!!!!

Do they microchip animals in England? It's a thing here, but I don't know anyone who has done it, I don't think it's a rural trend.

Lili is chipped - which is completely pointless as she never sticks her precious nose outside the door.

The only trouble with chipping is that although the rescue charities scan new arrivals automatically when they find strays, at the moment vets DON'T. I started at my vet for example and they never chipped any of my new animals to check they really belonged to me.

So unless someone reports him as a stray, which it seems they haven't because he's so well cared for, he is unlikely to be scanned for a chip. Plus I feel a bit wary about spending the money when he's going to swan off in 2 weeks. it's not like I can force him to stay here without locking him in and thatwouldn't be fair on Sevvie.

There's also been some evidence of a weird cancer at chip sites.

I hope they put the article online. You may find out where he's been hanging out!

Silly wandering kitty. It's good that he's being looked after, but...wow... That's why I could never have outdoor cats. The stress would kill me.

I couldn't keep them in, unless I lived in high rise of course, or a place with no garden. I deliberately live in the middle of nowhere so they can go out and roam - just didn't expect him to roam quite so far! He's so hungry and tired when he gets back, I wonder how far he comes.

Aw, Lucius, cat about town! I wonder what his other family calls him.

You should definitely write that piece for the paper. I'll bet his other family is just as curious as you are.

i wonder if he has about six families, spending two weeks in each house!

There's a kids' book about a cat called "Six-Dinner Sid" - he goes to six different houses for his meals... Mum and I use it as 'shorthand-speak' for a wandering cat; we've often wondered if her cat, Jazz is a Six-Dinner Sid, as she's absolutely enormous despite eating very little at home. According to the letter Mum had from the vet about her weight, she suffers from "obestity" [sic].

*laughs* I wouldn't mind that, as long as he came home every night!

I hadn't thought about that, but you may be right. The little feline polygamist!

Book idea?

Reading your post made me think you should turn Lucius the Wanderer into a character for another regency romance. Wandering man stops by inn, meets and likes male inkeeper, leaves, but then keeps coming back, year after year - something keeps drawing him back- love perhaps?, and of course, he eventually stays.

Just an idea :)

I would be a nervous wreck if one of my cats pulled something like this. I wonder who and where he is being taken care of.

True Blood is just pure fun crack imo. Not high drama at all but I find the whole thing just a fun hour of TV. It gets a bit crazy but that is what I love about it.

Hopefully the paper might be able to help.

Oh god, your cat boy. He's insane. I know I'd whack him around, which is the last thing one should do, but relief and anger would fight a pitched battle, and I'd probably squish, then scold, then squish again. And off he'd go again, I suppose.

I hope he stays a little longer this time. Fiend.

I'm glad he's back, even if it almost certainly isn't for long. Poor brother Sev, though, having his nose put out of joint every time. He looks beautiful, and it must be good to know that however tired and hungry he gets, coming back to you, at the other end of the line someone looks after him carefully.

That's a vivid picture - maybe the paper would like to print that? (If they do, just make sure you give them a copy not the original - much easier now pics can be in digital form.) Would they take an article from you rather than just writing it up from talking with you?

From: [identity profile] erastes.livejournal.com
Sevvie is really upset again, yes. It's so hard to know what to do, as he just stays away from everything, no cuddles - and I miss his cuddles.

It's a digital piccie anyway, so I'll probably send them that one, and a shot of his head, because that's the distinctive part, with his Hitler moustache. I think they'd want to write it, though.

Oh, yay, glad to hear the Prodigal Cat has turned up again. And you should do that piece for the paper -- might shed some light on where he spends the rest of his time.

And True Blood is, as someone else pointed out, just great fun all round. And so far it definitely hasn't gone the way of Heroes with incomprehensible plotlines; I love that it's a character-based series, rather than plot-based. Those always make me so much happier. And Bill is adorable, isn't he?

I've got to ring the journalist today, so I'll keep you posted!

Yes - really enjoying it. Was so upset about the grandmother though. *sob* Really like Bill, nicely brooding without being "good" in a sickly Angel way.

Oh, the grandmother broke my heart! She was such a wonderful character. And, definitely yes on Bill brooding away in a very good way. And Sam being fuzzy and dysfunctional at the same time.

I'm glad Lucius is back - even if only for a bit. Perhaps with the article in the paper you'll start to get pictures of him in front of landmarks as he travels around the county!

Merry

Good to read Lucius is back (for now) but how can you stand this? I would turn into a nervous wreck! Nightmares about wounded cats or no sleep at all!
Thank God my cat is too scared to go outside. *g* Granted, that's not natural behaviour but it suits me perfectly.

I *would* get worried if he starts sending postcards, though.
