Oh wtf?  What kind of ending was that? Spoilers ahead.

You might as well have had Patrick Duffy emerging from the shower. BAH!!  "make it all not happen?"  How was that done then?  Yeah, right. The writers painted themselves into a corner and didn't have the BALLS to kill off the whiney little bastard did they?  Shame on you, Joss. You should have had the courage of your convictions. I'd have let him blow himself and all those innocents to smithereens. And again with the bah! *grumbles* Bring on the Spike.

I've recently bought "Who's Who in Gay and Lesbian History" which is a must for a gay historical writer, me thinks.  I have to say that it does surprise me that hardly anyone is writing gay historical books about real people - like Philipa Gregory's Earthly Joys for example. There are so many fascinating characters.  I feel sorry for my Dad as everytime he rings me he gets bombarded with "I bet you never knew that XXXX was gay!"

Oh - that's interesting. Jean-Baptiste Lully was gay. That's a coincidence, as that's the march music I used on the first Transgressions video.

He'd certainly make a good book subject, as would Chevalier D'eon.

How's everyone doing today?

There is a significant body of evidence that Napoleon was bisexual - I am dying to write a Napoleon-in-exile bisexual romance... :)

That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. You really have a thing for short powerful men, don't you?

I know that he shared a lover with the Duke of Wellington. Shame he just didn't ditch the chick...

THAT is what I was going for...Napoleon and Wellington, post-Waterloo... ^___^

Yeah, I love the short, powerful guys. Heh heh.

Poor old Nappy.
Short in every dimension, but such a vigorous lover that Josephine fell out of bed twice, the servants all awoke and her dog bit him for attacking her.

His penis was sold on an auction you know: a dried up object resembling a seahorse.

Apparently (so I've heard) he was the only man who ever made her come. :)

I hated the end of Season 4. Even more, I hated the fact that Angel didn't just make the deal for himself but for his people as well. That upset me. They should have had a choice, and didn't really get one.

Yes, the second part of S4 was the lowpoint of Angel. I think Joss was busy finishing up Buffy and/or working on Firefly and he let the rest of the ANgel staff out of his sight too much. At least there is some good stuff in S5 that makes you forget S4 happened.

I'm still not thrilled with Spike in S5, at least near the beginning because he doesn't seem to have been affected enough by what happened to him at the end of Buffy S7... but that's another topic...

BTW, I sent you a private message. Not sure if you saw it, or if you just didn't have an answer for me... if you didn't see it, please check your LJ inbox.

This may be difficult to do, but if you can get over your profound disappointment in the ending of Season 4 (which I never got to, as I quit about mid-season), keep going to Season 5. That's all I'll say. Unless you decide not to watch, in which case I'll try to give you a motivatinal earfull of spoilers.

Oh no - the only reason I waded through four was to get to season five. I've waited years for this!!! :)

Well, I'll be the lone voice that loved the end of S4. Of course, Angel wasn't right to make the deal for everybody. But that's the way Angel rolls. Even if had been, "No, no, I could never..." it would have been massively out of character (I Will Remember You anybody?). Also, I love the fact that the prophesy did come true--Angel did kill Connor. He slit his throat in order to make the deal happen. Which means that Wesley was technically right (not that it does him much good).

And I don't think Joss ever intended to kill Connor. It's pretty clear that everything from the beginning of S2 on was leading to Connor's birth/existence. The more I watch the series, the more I'm, well, enchanted by the concept. Angel fights so hard for his redemption, for the chance to be human, for a second chance at life, and instead of becoming human himself, he has a son. A son who has to somehow survive his father's sins.

I just wish the kid had died. I'm glad he's out of the show, though. Or I HOPE he is. I actually thought it was on the cards - JW doesn't generally shy away from knocking off his characters. Oh and GOD - I was cheering when Leila snuffed it. Was not pleased to see her resurrected

*grumps*.

Just got in from work.
I think I need that book.

I watched season 1 of Angel. He was never my favorite character and during season 2, the WB went away and the local channels hopscotched the times around until we couldn't find it. So I gave it up.

The Chevalier was on my mind, but I'm scared other people write about him first.

I think that's a barrier that we are all going to have to deal with - we are in a genre where "firsts" are still an option, which is pretty amazing when you think of how many books have been written since history began. I'd like to deal with the Chevalier too at some point but I'll just have to do it in my own way. After all - there are many many many books dealing with the same heroines in hetero historical fiction, some even written by the same author! Look at how many books are written about Ann Boleyn, for example!

Philipa Gregory dealt a little with the first Buckingham in Earthly Joys but there's every possibility that someone else will write about him at some point, the little reprobate.

Your book about the Chevalier will do it from your perspective, your style--one may shout plagiarism! if someone nicks your idea in non factual, but if one is writing about a historical figure, that's not going to happen.

It's all very exciting, I think.

Well, yeah. And if there's an English Chevalier novel, doesn't mean there will be a German one anytime soon. :)

It's one of those many, many projects I have floating around and that haven't crystallized yet. It may never happen, or may, in ten years' time.
