1 - And it's raining and dull and has been since the day I bought a bird bath. Blame me. However I am an optimist, and am looking forward to an Indian Summer. *peers into the murk*

2 - Am re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird, and biting my keyboard in half for its elegant simplicity. It was so good to see her writing again, recently.

3. Pleased that Phoenix Rising are re-considering the issue of the plagiarists that they invited to be on their panel. Hurrah!

4. Posted a flasher on ERWA mailing list which got a good response, it was an adaptation of one that I did for dogdaysofsummer last year but I'll repost it here for those who haven't read it.

The sky rips. Rain, large as bees, warm as skin, drenches them in seconds. Paul kisses Adam - still surprised; tangling his fingers into the hair that, in the rain, turns dark as his eyes.

It's new, this. Who would have guessed that kissing his best friend would taste like honey and home? New, but he hopes it's not just a flash in the pan. Not just a summer storm.

In the strobe light night, white shirts cling like arms; tighter than embraces and still they kiss, their mouths fill with water and drown the words they can't yet express.

What's weird is that one of the commenters said it was 115 words, and then he re-wrote it to "fit" an did it in 88 words. *puzzled* I think I'll see out flasher markets and see if I can place some of the old HP drabbles there. As I said to [livejournal.com profile] rwday recently, it's daft having all these fics not earning their keep. The down said that of course is that as I sell converted fanfic, my website shrinks, as I'll need to take down the stories as I submit them, one of two have already gone.

Plodding on with "Junction X" today. Up to now it's been about backstory and explaining who and what my main protagonist is, but very soon I'll be introducing the love of his life even if he doesn't know it yet. *bounces* And I'd just like to say, that leaving fandom doesn't mean that the bloody characters leave you. Lucius is being a real PEST. He paces about, (when he's not scoffing absinthe and lolling over the furniture wearing nothing but a green silk robe) and moans that there's no HIM in Junction X. I've tried to explain to him that it's 1960's English suburbia - with MUGGLES in pinstripe suits and bowler hats and STUDENTS but he just aims those pale eyes at me as if to say "So? Well they need the excitement of ONE, don't they?"

Anyone want the loan of an annoying blond wizard for a month or two?

I've already got one, thanks, and his demon, too.

Bah. And he wouldn't fit in there. Lucius wouldn't understand Harold at all. *giggles at the thought of it*

Rewriting stuff "to fit"? I guess he means < 100 but still...

I think that perhaps he counted the >'s that appear when you press reply, or something, but it was definitely bang on 100 and his version bang on 88. Very odd.

Lovely excerpt. And yay to fandom finally getting some fucking backbone.

I'd have him, but I fear he wouldn't think it quite the same.

Maybe 'flashers' are defined differently from drabbles? Or maybe you get pricks in real life as in fandom.

You probably wouldn't spoil him, as much as I do, that's for bloody sure. *glares at him scoffing MY lemon sorbet.* And does he pay my mortgage? No he bloody doesn't.

I heard from the man again, evidently he copied my drabble into word and it added characters which pushed it over the word limit. Odd!

Ah, so just not the sharpest pencil in the bunch. And nice (and brave/honest) enough to correct himself.

I am reminded by other posters to make sure I have all your fanfic stuff on my hard drive - I think I have, but - check!

Note to self: Save copies of underlucius's fanfics before they turn into erastes's original fiction. (I'd hate to lose them!)

they kiss, their mouths fill with water - I like that. Realistic and nice. :)

Ah, I must go and save [livejournal.com profile] underlucius's fanfic before it all disappears!

(this was originally Sirius/Remus, right?)

I understand why you do it, though. I mostly avoid writing names or situations that make something definite fanfic, in case I'm going to turn it into original fiction.

Thank you!

I don't get it, though. Why go to the trouble of writing fanfic that isn't definite fanfic? Why not just write it as original?

Feedback.

And the inspiration that you get out of praise.

Ahahahahaha Lucius in Junction X would be SO COOL! Can you imagine how poor Ed would cope if he was faced with THAT? *imagines* Oh yeah, baby.

Did you mention at some point you were going to convert Shoulders of Giants? It'd be wonderful to see that out in the real world if you could find a way to do it. You know I love it. There's one thing that I wrote but never posted that I've always wanted to convert, but it's all Sirius and there's so much history with him that explains the story and his characterisation and GAH! I can't find a way around it that I like nearly as much as the fanfic version. *sigh*

Now look what you've done. Lucius is chasing Ed around the coffee table. Poor Ed.

Yes, I'd very much like to convert it, but I really don't know where to start. I'd need to give "Remus" a back story for a start. Fanfic is so EASY. You don't have to describe Hogsmeade, or tell anyone who Remus is, and what he's been through, everyone KNOWS.

Exactly - it's just the same as your Sirius piece. My suggestion is to do a character template, create your new character and rework it from there - that's what I did with Standish, which was supposed to be "oroborous" reworked and ended up as something completely different.

One day when Junction X is published I'm going to do crossover Ed/Lucius fanfic :D

The backstory is just so HARD to get past, particularly with Remus and Sirius I find. That whole childhood with Sirius' family and Remus' lycanthropy, then the James and Lily death and the blame and mistrust and all that shit is so fundamental in shaping their adult characterisations and it's really hard to justify them acting the way they do without that backstory. Especially as in mine, Sirius has just returned from the dead *headdesk*

All my Gundam Wing fanfics were AU. That was sort of like my "trademark" in the fandom. Now that I've taken the archive down, I'm rolling around in possible converted original fics (about 1/3 of which are novel-length), and it's pretty freaky (i.e., I don't know where to start).

I know what you mean about your archive dwindling, and I can empathize. But look at it this way. Seeing those old fics reborn into publishable works is pretty gosh darned gratifying.

I'm thinking of posting a quickie at the ERWA this coming weekend. I'm pretty nervous, but I think I should give it a shot. :)

I don't know where to start either, with a lot of them, as I've said before, it's so easy to write "Remus walked into a pub" and that's it, that's your intro, everyone knows who Remus is and what his back story is.

However I shall work at it - when I get five seconds!

And I look forward to you posting soemthing on storytime - very much! *bounce*
