It seems that, per this weak explanation, they meant to target just erotic adult fiction to begin with and other things got caught in the crossfire. Does it sound like that to you?
They should issue a freaking apology. I mean, seriously, this mistake of theirs doesn't explain those email the authors got about the "adult" material BS.
Well, they're right about it being embarrassing for them but this explanation doesn't seem to explain. Specifically, it doesn't explain the "customer service" email sent to Mark Probst.
The new customer service email they are sending to everyone doesn't have a name and also, interestingly, doesn't have a "did this answer your query" button.
