I just want to say a big hello to all the new friends to this journal. I’ve seen a lot of new names joining, and please don’t hesitate from commenting on anything – I love to meet new people so don’t be shy, reply to this post if you want, and tell me a little about yourself.
Mere Mortals 70,000 words. Pleased about this. Still don’t know how long it’s going to be, so can’t do a progress bar, consarnit.
This is another reason I won’t be getting a Kindle. As a friend just pointed out, this behaviour is rather unsettling or amusing and most definitely ironic if you take a note of the title of the book involved.
It’s Anti-Plagiarism day, by the way – Gehayi has posted over at Meta Writer with a great poem – and here’s the blog where I picked up the idea that it was Anti-Plagiarism day today – How Publishing Really works it’s a great blog and well worth bookmarking.

Date: 2009-07-17 09:44 pm (UTC)Wow, Kindle v.1984 would be really funny if it didn't have such horrendous implications. And coming on top of Amazon!Fail. They really are something, aren't they.
Off to see Harry today with the obligatory 'borrowed' child. Rather looking forward to it (the movie, not the child). Faux-family outings, what can you do...

Date: 2009-07-17 09:57 pm (UTC)On a more serious note, yes, this is a good reason not to buy a Kindle, though I do like gadgets and would dearly love one.

Date: 2009-07-17 10:30 pm (UTC)A publisher could decide to pull a print book at any time and stop selling it in the shops, but they wouldn't dream of coming around to your house and demanding you give them your copy back.
The whole e-reader thing seems like such a nightmare for us UK based folks. A friend has a Sony Reader, but she complains about what a nightmare it can be getting the books she wants. I'm not convinced to buy yet.
And, hi! I'm a new person I suppose. I'm a fanfic and original fic writer and about to start writing the first one that I'll actually try to sell. It's a m/m sci-fi romance. I'm reading lots of romance just now, both m/m and m/f to make sure I really understand how to focus on the romance and make it the driving force of the story. I'm on page 69 of Transgressions. I hope I'll get the time to sit down and finish it this weekend.

Date: 2009-07-18 09:34 am (UTC)I've been reading about a friend who has one of the New Cool Readers and that sounds a nightmare too - need a degree in computing to make it work. I prefer to be able to pick up a book, open it and read! I will get a reader eventually (mainly because I can't stand to read at the PC for the reviews for Speak Its Name) but not until they are £30 and waterproof.
I've got time to wait!! It'll happen, though - look at the price of DVD machines now.

Date: 2009-07-17 10:59 pm (UTC)I loves my Sony reader. Simple PDFs, and no wireless B.S.

Date: 2009-07-18 05:33 am (UTC)Hi, I'm spindriftdancer. I live in Canada. I'm somewhat new to romance reading, but I've found some authors I like (obviously yourself included). As with Junkfood Monkey I'm also an aspiring writer. My day job is being a library geek.
Mermph at Kindle. That's why I buy pdfs.

Date: 2009-07-18 10:19 am (UTC)The thing that gets me is that Amazon seem to have removed the books without even so much as a warning... did they seriously think no-one would notice?!!

Date: 2009-07-18 10:35 am (UTC)I think the whole thing's appalling, but then Amazon really don't care, why should they? *fumes*
