I just want to say a big hello to all the new friends to this journal. I’ve seen a lot of new names joining, and please don’t hesitate from commenting on anything – I love to meet new people so don’t be shy, reply to this post if you want, and tell me a little about yourself.

Mere Mortals 70,000 words.  Pleased about this. Still don’t know how long it’s going to be, so can’t do a progress bar, consarnit.

This is another reason I won’t be getting a Kindle.  As a friend just pointed out, this behaviour is rather unsettling or amusing and most definitely ironic if you take a note of the title of the book involved.

It’s Anti-Plagiarism day, by the way – Gehayi has posted over at Meta Writer with a great poem – and here’s the blog where I picked up the idea that it was Anti-Plagiarism day today – How Publishing Really works  it’s a great blog and well worth bookmarking.

Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today!

Re: the Kindle, right, I added that to my list of reasons not to get one. It's ludicrous, and having them say, "Oh, but we'll hardly ever do it, we promise!" doesn't make me feel any better. How stupid do they think I am? No, wait, don't answer that. [eyeroll]

Heh - yes "hardly ever" isn't very reassuring is it?

Good morning from a very cold and stormy Auckland. Brrrr.

Wow, Kindle v.1984 would be really funny if it didn't have such horrendous implications. And coming on top of Amazon!Fail. They really are something, aren't they.

Off to see Harry today with the obligatory 'borrowed' child. Rather looking forward to it (the movie, not the child). Faux-family outings, what can you do...

The Kindle thing--wow! Unbelievable, ironic & disturbing. Like you said, one more reason why I'm not going to buy one.

Just another Amazon Cock up. I think we've gone past fail!

Sorry, but I had to laugh at 1984 being surreptitiously removed from Kindles. Big Brother is watching.

On a more serious note, yes, this is a good reason not to buy a Kindle, though I do like gadgets and would dearly love one.

I'd love one too, just to help with the reviews for SIN, but far far far far too expensive for now.

That's just unbelievable! (And ironic of course.) Will they at least be refunding the people who they've taken the books back from. Not that this would make it okay, but if they don't it's just pure thievery!

A publisher could decide to pull a print book at any time and stop selling it in the shops, but they wouldn't dream of coming around to your house and demanding you give them your copy back.

The whole e-reader thing seems like such a nightmare for us UK based folks. A friend has a Sony Reader, but she complains about what a nightmare it can be getting the books she wants. I'm not convinced to buy yet.

And, hi! I'm a new person I suppose. I'm a fanfic and original fic writer and about to start writing the first one that I'll actually try to sell. It's a m/m sci-fi romance. I'm reading lots of romance just now, both m/m and m/f to make sure I really understand how to focus on the romance and make it the driving force of the story. I'm on page 69 of Transgressions. I hope I'll get the time to sit down and finish it this weekend.

Yes - they are refunding, there would be a huge kerfuffle if they didn't.

I've been reading about a friend who has one of the New Cool Readers and that sounds a nightmare too - need a degree in computing to make it work. I prefer to be able to pick up a book, open it and read! I will get a reader eventually (mainly because I can't stand to read at the PC for the reviews for Speak Its Name) but not until they are £30 and waterproof.

I've got time to wait!! It'll happen, though - look at the price of DVD machines now.

We can let the Americans work all the kinks out of the concept and only join in once someone gets things figured out. It's an area that's still looking for that "killer app" moment when everything falls into place.

Good grief. If Amazon's recent shenanigans weren't enough reason to not fork over 400 smackers for a Kindle, this is.

I loves my Sony reader. Simple PDFs, and no wireless B.S.

Glad the Sony is better, it's not here, sadly as the choice of books here is shocking.

Do I count as new? New-ish, I guess.

Hi, I'm spindriftdancer. I live in Canada. I'm somewhat new to romance reading, but I've found some authors I like (obviously yourself included). As with Junkfood Monkey I'm also an aspiring writer. My day job is being a library geek.

Mermph at Kindle. That's why I buy pdfs.

*Waves back* Sorta new here. I love your blog, you always have really interesting links, though I don't get a lot of time to comment on it all.

The thing that gets me is that Amazon seem to have removed the books without even so much as a warning... did they seriously think no-one would notice?!!

Hello, it's so nice to see so many new names (although you are new-ish) thanks for commenting!

I think the whole thing's appalling, but then Amazon really don't care, why should they? *fumes*

I'm with you on Kindles. They function a lot like early iTunes: you pay money to own your copy but then you can't do anything else with it. If they decide to neutralize it, you're screwed. That's wrong on multiple levels. :| Meanwhile every publisher and their brother is rushing around to get their stuff Kindleized.
