I certify that I have the right to submit the texts, manuscripts, photo's, artwork and materials that I am submitting to XoXo Publishing. This submission signifies agreement to the above and that I agree to grant an exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable, transferable, perpetual license to publicly display my submission on this Web site, XoXo Publishing main website, XoXo Publishing Blog, XoXo Publishing Facebook, XoXo Publishing Ning, and XoXo Publishing on MySpace only.

The typo would put me off for a start, and then the things you agree to by that clause?  NO THANK YOU!

virtual veggies – who knew it could be so stressful?

Molehill Garden is proving to be tough. I’m supposed to working on the next question which is growing a bazillion garlic and I haven’t got around to it for weeks now. All the customers want STUFF I HAVEN’T GOT. and now my stocks of just about everything are down to the twenties.

ARGH!

I’m working towards buying a third garden, I need 40,000 more gnomebucks and then I can ignore the bloody customers that come in that gate and just use it for garlic. I need more space!!

The customers pay you WAY less than you could get at the market. But you have fruit trees right? I hear there are good business in them with those.

Mostly I just ignore them unless they want maximum three different things that I have AND they'll pay me 500+ gb for them.

I'm just growing some stuff at the moment and then selling the surplus on the market. Just had a quest where I had to grow ten million potatoes, so I contracted 17 of all my crops to myself so I wouldn't accidentally sell it. :)

I'm 74,5K away from my second garden!

Yes - what I tend to do is if they want to offer me peanuts e.g. under 1000, I make 'em wait and make sure everything i give them is grown by me, but some of them want stuff that's way overpriced - about 2500, and then i wait until i just need to buy (for example) 15 peppers and 20 garlic, do that, and still make a fat profit.

I do have a good few mirabelles, apples. pumpkins and asparagus but tend to hoard them because they take so damn long to grow...

we are both so hopeless....

I just send them packing if I don't like their price.

I had one the other day who wanted 200+ strawberries and would only pay me about 10gB or something else ridiculous like that. I'm trying to make money. It's not a charity shop. :p

*giggles*

I never thought of saying no. I sort of thought they'd shut me down if I did that!!! I'll have to learn to say no!

No, it doesn't have any consequence, other than you don't get the points for trading with them. I find I get enough points by harvesting anyway.

You missed the last line, though:

I also grant XoXo Publishing the right to pursue anyone who copies my submissions.

Please note--that does not say "Anyone but me." It says "ANYONE."

You're agreeing not to copy your own work. Anywhere. EVER.

Yeah. Even if the rest of that paragraph wasn't appalling, and it is, this sentence would still make me say, "I don't think so."

Though now I want to see a Mole Army.

Ummm whaaaaa? Let me guess, the "payment" that they're offering is "exposure"? Good grief.

Aieeee! I just clicked. Not only is XoXo their real name, but they have *music*. That would have been the dealbreaker for me. Although it comes as no surprise that they're a division of "The Ninny Group." (typo intended)

It's baffling. anyone who sends anything to them needs their head read.

Is that in any way a typical licensing agreement? Because it sounds to me like they're saying Give us all your work for free forever.

I have no idea, but i hope people stay well clear of it!

It's not that far off. All big corporations... ALL big corporations, because Itty Bitty Press is probably owned by one ... will ask for the same thing, in exchange for as little as they can get away with. Running Press contracts are "for the life of the copyright" which is your lifetime PLUS 75 YEARS.

So if a work means something to you, READ THE FINE PRINT. Even if it's a paragraph at a time, in between screaming boredom.

Thank you for the insight. Much appreciated, and if that day comes, I will definitely heed your advice.

I have a Gopher Garden here, and they take whatever they can get, trade . . . or not.

I really need to carry a marker pen around with me so I can correct the aperstrofes! Shop signs and takeaway menus really annoy me. How can they get into print with such blatant errors?

You mean, if I put my aperstrofes in the wrong place they'll take me on? LOL

This xo place must be carousing for new blood, because I'd never heard of it before and you posted about it, then within days one of the owners (is there such?) of it joined an online writing community (SheWrites) that I follow. I was surprised to see someone admitting being attached to it. Reading over their site it's not something I would feel proud of at all.

Hope all is well!
