The Norfolk Freecycle network appears to have disappeared!  The Great Yarmouth Freecycle Yahoo group has vanished, and when I try and contact the help email – that doesn’t exist either! What’s going on!?? Why am I asking you lot? You can’t help!

I was after a TV to play my games on – the only working telly I’ve got left (the corpses of two others are piled up in a corner as they are too bloody heavy to move) is a bedroom set, really – very small, and I simply can’t SEE what’s going on in the game unless I sit about six inches away from it.  There must be (I reckoned) a good few people throwing their old tube sets away to replace them with plasma screens but the Freecycle has buggered off.  Just my blooming luck.

Look!!! It’s here on the search!  But vanished when you click on it. ARGH!

I fired off a “please clarify” to the LAMBDA Literary Award organisers. I’ll keep you updated if and when they answer.  I’ve worked with Richard Labonte a couple of times in anthologies, so hopefully he’ll answer me.

I’ve bought two tickets for the Euro Lottery. Pointless I know, but I could REALLY  do with 85million right about now. :)

Severus is being a very naughty monster today, I had chicken yesterday and he’s convinced I have some left and am hiding it from him and he’s sticking his fat furry face into every bag and bin and cupboard he can find.

OK – no-one’s around so i’m going off to immerse myself in Metal Gear Solid 4.  I’m so tempted to buy a headset, but I just know that if I try the online version I’m going to suck so hard.  It’s more about shooting people online than it is hiding under the bed.

There seems to have been some sackings in the upper echelons of Freecycle

There's been a big bust-up in Freecycle between the US and the UK networks - a friend pointed at it yesterday, http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/green-living-blog/2009/sep/10/uk-freecycle-us-network

But as far as I can tell my local one is still going (at least, I've had e-mails from/to the group today).

When the world is falling apart it's possibly a consolation to note that cats still want chicken (visible or not). Much more disconcerting when they don't care!

My freecycle group is still going strong - 40-odd messages today alone. Is yours a Yahoo group? Could something have happened to that side of it?

dunno - all i know is that i tried to send a help message to the general email on the main freecycle page and that isn't an valid email address. That's not the great yarmouth one, but the overral one. very odd.

The 'freecycle' group in my area of Canada turned itself into Full Circle after some sort of financial fandango by the guy who started it.

You might start up your own similar group--if you have any old emails, you could try contacting other people from the group and see if they want to restart under another name.

If it goes the way it did here, you may be hearing from one of the old mods soon under a differently-named group...

It's been solved - many many UK FC groups have broken away from FC and formed another consortium under another name - i missed the announcemnet as I only have digest. All sorted!

Good luck on the TV-hunting. We bagged a screen door last week for the porch project... except it may turn out to be too tall. Sigh.

Ours has just changed to Greencycle for some reason -- maybe similar forces are operating??

Yes, mine's changed to Freegargle or something like that.

My local freecycle changed as well. I guess some organisers got a bit pissed off.
