AND THEY ARE ALL WESTERNS.

That's cruel and unusual punishment.

I bought a cheap used copy of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and am hugely disappointed in it.  I thought it was free roaming: it isn't.  I thought it was a Tomb Raider rival. It SO isn't. And there's just shooting shooting shooting and next to no puzzling or adventuring - and there's just waves of bad guys - waves of 'em.  Think I'll just sell the damned thing on - as there's no way I'm ever going to finish it. I've lost interest on level four. Dullsville. Won't be bothering with the sequel.

However, one sequel I shall saving my pennies for is a new Assassin's Creed title which is promised for next year.  An Ezio one.

It's clearly cosmic retribution for your westerns bashing on Jessewave's site.

In that case. I really hate gay porn films.

Hee!

Would you believe my next book is a western? He's a closeted bisexual gunslinger trying to hang it up and settle down. When he gets blamed for knocking up the wrong girl, her daddy calls in a vicious outlaw to kill him. The outlaw doesn't kill honest men and ends up working for our hero, on the farm and in the bedroom.

Dang, now I need to go rewatch MONTANA. Here. Have some handsome old cowboy.

Ew! That's very unkind! Waving horrid cowboys at me, even if he does dress spiffily!

Sheepman, actually. That's our major inspiration for our gunslinger.

I could offer you an entertaining saloon shoot out or even worse, SINGING from the same film.

Seems like we're both disappointed.

I'm currently reading Man in the Mirror by Standish and the relationship between a white man and Apache made me think of Jesse Hajick's masterpiece The God Eaters. Alas, difference in genre aside, the writing is not on the same level. :(

Did you watch Empire of the Sea on BBC2 last night?

Haven't read either of those, I'm afraid! No - I missed it, I'm planning to catch it on iplayer at some point, but I'm not a great ship buff, other than Hornblower - and the Slashy episode was on today. Hurrah!

Turn down the volume and write your own dialogue.

Sadly they all end up talking and sounding like John Wayne and then my mind goes to that scene in the Birdcage.

I would have been more than happy to watch that had it been on, but it was all Valesquez Rides Out and stuff like that. Gimme Slashy PYW or Slashy The Searchers.

*dies* That was the slashiest thing EVER.

And a friend of mine says Clint Eastwood should never be slashed, since he's too manly. (Charleton Heston, John Wayne and Harrison Ford also fall on this list. Clearly my friend is an idiot, since the latter actually did a coded gay character) My response was "You were asleep during SPACE COWBOYS and PAINT YOUR WAGON, weren't you?"

And "The Searchers" - John Wayne is clearly playing a bisexual at the very least.

Have you seen Ben Hur?
The spear scene between Ben-Hur and Massala made it into The Celluloid Closet.

And The Empire Strikes Back?
Like my icon says, the slash writes itself. (esp when you think and realize Han NEVER does anything Leia says and everything Luke says)

Oh yes, definitely - BH wasn't surprising as the screenplay was written by Gore Vidal and he told Stephen Boyd to play it homosexual but "not to tell Chuck as he'd never go for it."

I'm not going to mention westerns because i share your pain and put on glee!

but I think you might have to give drake's fortune a second chance because its amy hennig and she takes a while to get started
she is responsible (mostly singlehandedly) for games having epic stories, the makers of biohazard all just named her games as their inspiration
because of that the gameplay can sometimes be a bit ropey at first, however she is the queen of game slash without being as overt as squarenix
she's been nominated three times for a writer's guild outstanding achievement award (including for uncharted 2) and is mostly the reason a lot of people bought the ps3

you'll find a lot when games are praised for their stories they're either by her or were directly inspired by her
the problem can sometimes be (as with Legacy of Kain) that they go over several games and might end on a cliff hanger (she left extensive notes for the last lok when she changed companies and first voice of the elder god died, then the young new director died and they decided it was cursed and wouldn't do it without her)
it is often worth playing her games solely for the story

well its not very epic--assassins creed outshines it a million percent--and compared with tomb raider its just shoot shoot shoot shoot--20 bad guys when i've got a maximum of 40 bullets? its not impressing me i'm afraid

Indeed. How dare they?
I don't like them much, myself.
