Can't come fast enough. That puff of Erastes shape dust in the distance will
be all they can find of me in 15 minutes time. Terrible to wish 8 hours of
your life away EVERY DAY.

Miss Snark has linked to a Wall street Journal article about fanfiction.
Honestly, you'd think it had just been invented with Potterdom. I know that
I only discovered it 3 years ago, but if I was like some of my flist who had
been doing it for 20 odd years, I'd be a bit pissed off that world-wide
acclaim was given to "The Shoebox Fungus" which - apart from the vaguely
innovative idea of the scribbles, (and the art, some of which was lovely)
was nothing spread thin, I have to be frank. Yes! Contraversial opinion,
but... *peers at name on journal * I do believe that it's my journal, and
therefore my opinion. I don't think the writing was anything to write home
about, though.

Anyway, someone needs to point out to all these Journos that fanfiction has
been around since the Bible, if not earlier. What? The Bible's not
fanfic? Four different versions of Jesus' exploits? (and a lot more
versions which never got published...)

Unproductive weekend! Other than a spork of the "Peter Pettigrew" scene in
POA, I achieved nothing. Nada, zilch, zippo. However, I've been bunnied for
the Gay Men's Tales of Lit and Lust, which is right up my alley (and
hopefully EVREMONDE's - kicks her) so I'm doing a Oxford Graduate story for
that, and have done about 200 words. So far there's more Lit than Lust.

The thing is, the use of scanned-in handwritten notes and art wasn't even new when they did it. I mean, I enjoyed some of the sections, but it wasn't the groundbreaking OMG MOST UNIQUE THING EVER that people made it out to be. And I vehemently disliked the Remus characterization.

Besides, adding sketches and pictures was just going back to the pre-internet days of fanzines, where most fanfics were illustrated!

Ah, well. Shoebox is to great fanfics what Harry Potter is to great literature!

too late now, but we should have done an hp_lit collaboration. I often thought about it, but didn't know if I'd get artists interested. Would have been fab. Hp-Lit's writers and artists like you.

I admit not to have read a lot of it, but I got so bored with the wishy washy ness of it and gave up pretty early on.

And it's like I was on another planet - same with the Draco Trilogy, I just thought "I don't get it. I can't see what everyone else is seeing."
