How to see me leaving…
Mar. 2nd, 2010 08:23 pmI don’t like being told—or guilted out—to do things. I received two emails in two days—one from a ebook selling site complaining that I’d bought books and hadn’t done reviews for them, and the other from a Wiki site saying I’d better pay for the use of it.
So I’ve deleted my membership to both sites. Grrrr.
And this? SO NEEDS LOL-CATTING.

No.. Henry, why should I do that?

If it's an automated email then they can certainly change the settings or copy so it doesn't piss off customers. Your point makes sense; it does feel rude.
Review reminders
Date: 2010-03-03 04:13 pm (UTC)We've had this feature in place for nearly 18 months, and to my knowledge this is the first time we've ever heard anyone complain about it. Most Smashwords readers and authors seem to appreciate it.
However, it's not my place to tell you how you should feel about it, so again, please accept my apologies if you found it intrusive. I would hope you'll reconsider your decision to leave us. To control all your communications preferences at Smashwords, visit https://www.smashwords.com/account and you'll see "Communications Preferences" is at the top of the page (because we really don't want to send you anything you don't want!).
Best wishes,

Dear [first name lastname],
Thank you for purchasing from Smashwords three weeks ago. According to our records, you haven't yet reviewed everything you bought. If you enjoyed a title, won't you please take a moment to write your review? Reviews help other Smashwords members make more informed purchase decisions and help authors market their books.
To write a review, simply follow the link to the book's page and click "Review Book":

Reviews are also a great way for you to build your own presence on the site. Once you write a review, you will be credited as the author of the review and other Smashwords members will be able to click on your screen name to visit your member page, where they can read your other reviews, as well as any other optional information you care to share such as your photo and bio. And of course if you're an author yourself, and fellow readers find your reviews informative, then your book reviews serve as a nice indirect way to help other readers discover the books you've written when they click on your screenname to view your other reviews.
If you no longer wish to receive these reminders, please click the following link:

Thanks for supporting Smashwords authors!
Sincerely,
The Smashwords Team
