Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today! - Adopt one today!

I think we’ve seen that plot in Merlin three times now. At least. I know it’s aimed for a younger age-group than me, but it’s still insulting.

I had a letter from Nissan yesterday, which boggled me. Get this:

“As you are already familiar with Nissan, I thought you might like to be kept abreast of all the exciting new developments happening at the company.

However, because you have opted out of receiving marking communications from us, can cannot currently tell you about any product news, events or special offers.

That’s why, as Managing Director of Nissan, I wanted to write to you personally to invite you to opt back in to receiving news from us.”

It goes on, explaining how.

WHAT PART OF OPT OUT DO THEY NOT UNDERSTAND???

That smacks of desperation.

Is there a reply envelope? Put everything - including the envelope it all came in if you stell have it - into that, with the words DO NOT CONTACT ME AGAIN on the letter. I'm sure if you use the words DO NOT CONTACT they are legally obliged to leave you the hell alone. Same with phone calls, even if someone is an exception to the Telephone Preference Service rules, like charities and surveys you can tell them to put you on their DO NOT CALL list and they're not allowed to call you again. But you must use those specific words.

Man I wish the do not call telephone list worked more like that in the US. Politicians, charities, and surveyers/pollsters are completely exempt here. Not only do they not have to abide by the national call registry, they don't even have to refrain from calling *again* if you tell them do not call when they try the first time. Election season (which lasts much longer in the US, because they start campaigning much further ahead of the election) is a nightmare. I got no less than 6 calls on Monday evening last week related to the election coming up in November.

I know it's legal, but what on earth would make someone think that if they call someone who's already on record as not wanting to receive calls that they'll be so happy you called, because you're special and different, that they'll *GIVE YOU MONEY* as a reward for interrupting their dinner???
