My phone is broken. No idea what's wrong with it, think it's definitely dead, so having to use mobile. Hope dad doesn't need me tonight—just rang him to tell him, but of course that just confuses him. Will go to Latham's tomorrow and get another. I could do with a hands free, but I don't have a plug point and a phone point anywhere near each other.

I spent half an hour trying to work out which spelling of CHECKERS was correct for English spelling—and getting a bit stumped and then suddenly it hit me. The correct spelling is….

…..do you know?

…..under the cut….

D.R.A.U.G.H.T.S.

i can't believe that. I am being infiltrated with American spellings/words and I don't even realise it. eeeeeeeek!

Here's today's priceless prose.

"He smiled at me with an amused expression."

*loads gun*

I think that he didn’t believe, not truly, in my headaches, that he couldn’t believe that a “mere headache” could completely poleaxe anyone so completely.

HORRIBLE!!!!!   *AIMS*

AND FINALLY – what is this, local news or something?

hilarious sound-byte from Woman's Hour this morning—woman said "when he had the procedure we were on tenderbricks." CLASSIC!  I think i will start saying tenderbricks.

Lol @ 'draughts'. I was thinking "Chequers, but why is she wanting to go there?" I was wondering if this was a new story involving some Prime Minister or something!

it was very odd. My mind is definitely going - although how will anyone tell? I find myself opening Google and then just staring at it, not remember what it is i'm supposed to be looking up. The equivalent of going upstairs and forgetting why!

How about going upstairs, forgetting why, going back downstairs, then remembering that you were going upstairs to check something on Google, going back upstairs and opening Google, and then just staring at it?

See. It could always be worse. ;)

So I think you've completely established that he was completely poleaxed by the headache. :D

"tenderbricks", now that's a new one. I see and hear "tenderhooks" instead of "tenterhooks" all the time, which is reasonable, similar sound, and few people know what tenterhooks even are, but how the heck did bricks get in there?

are you sure? I'm wondering if I can fit another completely in there.....

I know - great isn't it? I think it's a mish mash of "hot bricks" and "tenterhooks" - most people as you say, don'tknow what tenterhooks are, and they've only heard it said, so they think it's tenderhooks. but tenderbricks is priceless!

LOL at draughts. I've done that IRL. I'm so used to having to translate that I caught myself telling my mother to put her bag in the 'trunk' of the car on Friday.

I'd rather be on tender bricks than hot hooks.

The wonderful Mr Cochrane has a fund of these.

"Fed up to the sick teeth" is a favourite.

SO if I don't like a comic or a pundit, I should throw tenderbrickbats at them?
Hmm. Sounds like foam plastic may be involved.

Brilliant! Perhaps you could write a scene where someone with a checkered history is completely on tenderbricks about the outcome of a game of draughts?

So all those times I read about someone playing "draughts", they were playing checkers. Huh. I didn't expect that.

Although it's het, when my husband showed me this video I thought you would love it.

It's a fanvid montage of period dramas to the tune of "It's Raining Men"
