Hormones? Spose it could be. Or I'm just becoming one of the Grumpy Old Women who look at the directions for how to use a toothpick or a serving suggestion for biscuits (on a plate) and realise the world HAS GONE MAD.

Just had a letter from the Driving Licensing People regarding Dad's driving. We knew they were looking into it, because 1. he's 82 and 2. he did hit a parked car last year – he's had a medical which he passed and has filled in several forms.

Now he has to go and get an assessment – which we were expecting.

EXCEPT THE ASSASSEMENT CENTRE IS FIFTY MILES AWAY.

My head cannot cope with the stupidity.

I don't think the world has gone mad so much as it's gone stupid. Some bureaucrat says, "Oh, let's centralize everything, we can save money." So useful government offices get closed, the people who ran them get put out of work, and everyone has to scramble to jump through hoops.

What they ought to do is declare a moratorium on elected officials' expense accounts for redecorating...

he drives very well - he doesn't remember the way to places that are further out of North Walsham, so he doesn't drive out of NW without me with him, but really, memory doesn't really factor into the actual process. Ido think it's time to stop, though--although I'm dreading the whole daily, hourly "where's the car" routine.

I've said it before. As caring for a loved one with your father's issues is one of the most difficult, exhausting, and heartbreaking things anyone will ever attempt to do, I don't know how you *do* do it.
