The delicious Mathew Baynton doing Adam Ant Dick Turpin.  No, it's no good, HH, Dick Turpin is ingrained in my mind as a dandy hero. No matter what truths you tell about him! Woof!

The only place I ever heard of Dick Turpin was in Good Omens, where Newt Pulsifer called his car Dick Turpin. But I love the song! (Dick Turpin sounds like a drive-by mugger!)

oh he was romanticised like mad, by novelists and poems. he was basically a thug, but for some reason highwaymen were (even at the time) held to be celebs--which is where Fleury got his reputation, after all!

Brilliant! I haven't seen that one before though I'm a big fan of Horrible Histories. I'm with [livejournal.com profile] essayel on the breeches though, what's that about?!

Btw here's my other favourite highwayman, Captain Jerry Jackson :)

it's a new series, every afternoon on cbbc. they did william wallace today.

perhaps they don't want to have too sexy a highwayman? they probably know they have older perving viewers! LOL

oh yes, Jerry Jackson was lovely. :D Rafe's voice was based on James Mason's.

I only remember Dick Turpin from the Disney series. ... and on the highway he will ride until his course is done...

Nod nod. yes, another romanticised version! But I have to admit it, I had a major crush when I was very young. I even had a duster coat like his, and a tricorn hat--then made a hobby horse, used my six shooters from my cowboy outfit and i was done.

this probably explains a lot about me.

One of my ancestors was a highwayman actually. he got drafted into the army during a war (no idea which one, this was in Denmark in the olden days) he did so outstanding that the king pardoned him and knighted him as a reward. He became the first one of a long line of nobles owning the castle of Kaas, which is still in the family.
I guess Dick Turpin wasn't the only highwayman that got romanticized :)

What fun! But then I was always a fan of the old Dick Turpin TV series.

I used to imagine that the weekly 'females in need of rescue' got to join their own club afterwards and set up pubs together in happy domestic bliss with no annoying men to get in the way.
