Happy Rebel Scum Day you Rebel Scum! Love, your favourite Monarchist Oppressor. *drinks tea in an offensive fashion*

I had been tempted to do a website of purely m/m book reviews because I hadn't found one anywhere, despite extensive searching, but I knew in my heart of hearts that I didn't have the time to dedicate to it. So I was very pleased when I found THIS wonderful m/m review site - and am looking forward to discovering all these m/m books I haven't even HEARD of!

Whee!

At the library last night I got Night Watch by Pratchett (can't find my copy and I'm working my way through the Guards Books), The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (a completely random shelf grab but gehayi says she really enjoyed it), Dead Man in Deptford by Guy Burgess (about Kit Marlowe, I doubt there will be any gay sex in it, sadly, or at least, nothing juicy), 120 days of Sodom by de Sade (OMG how bloody DULL, read about 20 pages of it yesterday and gah! Way to make sex boring, Sade, darling,) and Wilt in Nowhere by Tom Sharpe - havent read a Wilt book for many many years.

I'm pretty happy about the New Companion News on Dr Who. I liked that character and at least HOPEFULLY we'll be spared yet another companion (in the new series) who is unrequitedly in LURVE with the Doctor because that's getting pretty tired, pretty damned quickly. But come on - when so we get a male companion please????

You mean Anthony Burgess, right? And yes there is some rather juicy gay sex - a rather juicy gay love story, even. Which is one of many reason why this book is among my top five ever written. ;)

LOL!

I thought Jack was a male companion? But admittedly that could be because I haven't seen the final episode yet (away last weekend, waiting for Friday!)

But yes, the unrequited love thing is very dull and hard to believe given how he treats them.

Thanks for the review site link. I was delighted at first but grew a little suspicious after checking 5 or 10 of those reviews. Maybe it was an odd stroke of luck, but each and every one of them was really positive... Still, I might check out some of the titles listed.

Didn't the fourth have um Cedric? Was that his name? The fellow with the pageboy haircut.

Happy *Independence* Day... (g)

Male companions have been so few and far between, which alway surprised me, as I thought you guys were always way ahead of us with the homoerotic subtext. And I also preferred it when the heteroerotic was subtext, too (hey, I always thought the Doctor and Sarah Jane... (g)). The first time I noticed blatant shippiness in Dr. Who was with Peri of the Awesome Boobs and No Acting Ability.

If you ever start up a petition for a good juicy male companion, I'll be in line to sign.

It's a decent review site, but I bet you'd do it one better. I had a great time reading those reviews and found some interesting novels. Yes, some reviews are sweet and some are harsh and I think the reviewer's taste weighs heavily. I guess that's difficult to avoid.

Adric - he's the one who died and killed the dinosaurs. Doctor #5 (I think it was 5) also had Turlough for a while.

Oh, please, please take us back! We want to trade in George the Jerk, and we'll not have to worry about medical extortion with battery insurance!

Coming for a visit anyway - doing New Year's in London! :)

I'm right there with you on the medical extortion bit.
Side-note: I understand from fan comments that the Michael Moore movie "Sicko" actually goes round to visit sane countries to find out how their experiences have been with, like, sane medical arrangements, instead of gleefully legal assault and battery by the largest insurance corporations in the world.

However, on a more serious note, I think we'd have to *pay* the Monarchist Oppressors to take in Crazy George. That's quite a job. I mean, how many asylums are equipped for all those Sekrit Service guys, anyway?
(Stakc 'em up like cordwood in the hallways, yep...)
Hmm, now *there's* a wacko tv series premise, all right...

I'd love to have done a review site, but I only really wanted to do one because there wasn't one. I might do one linked to The Big List of Gay Historical fiction, and review just historical stuff?

i lost my faith in the NHS recently for obvious reasons, but I have to admit that as an animal, it's a pretty damn wonderful thing.

And yes - join me and thistlerose on our pre-revolutionary island where we can pretend it all never happened.

I hope you have a blast at Noo Year! Where abouts? Scotland?

London first, probably on a museum binge, and then I might wander a bit. I was thinking of getting a National Rail pass and just going where the schedule takes me.

Well, with all the subpoenas in bloom, I can't help but think that Crazy George might really need to be crazy to escape what's coming.

I really want to see some jailing, yeshindeed.

I loved The Historian - one of the most enjoyable books I've read for sheer pleasure in the past year. I turned off my "critical reading" radar about a third of the way in, because I just got swept up in the narrative, but I'm pretty sure it was very well-written!

And ah, Nightwatch. You never see second-hand copies of that like the rest of Pterry's books - I wonder why that is? :)

I'm not overly pleased about the new companion - I never liked her much and her character annoyed me a bit. That said, better the devil you know and at least it means I won't have to put up with Martha at least for half the series, and if she's going to Torchwood does that mean Phlegmmy Gwenny is going? Because I'd take Martha over her ANY day.

Why not? You've already written lots of reviews, so you have a strong start for a review site. Make the most of what you enjoy doing anyway.

Hi, Erastes -- It's been a while. You must be proud of Standish. It hasn't been out of the top 100 LGBT fiction and/or romance list since I've been checking. Way to go. I have the book (finally!) but haven't had a chance to read it because I've actually been writing.

I wish I'd known you didn't know about the gals at Squashduck. You must get them to review Standish. They were one of the first reviewers to cover The Phoenix. They both gave it great marks, though one would have liked a little more sex, as I recall. (Dream on; I do what I do and will do no more). They don't always agree, and I believe the reviews are honest. I think most reviewers are. Of course, any reviewer's view is just that, and sometimes it depends on what side of the bed s/he gets up on in the morning whether a book gets a good one or not.

How do you find time to read and write, too? I can manage only one at a time.

I hope to have Counterpoint off to publishers by the end of July. It's going to beta readers by Friday this week, I hope.

Do you have a book coming out any time soon?

Someday I want to read the book you mentioned, about Kit Marlowe. He's a very interesting man.

I wish you continued outstanding sales of Standish! I'm jealous.

We reallly don't do well with George IIIs. (Washington, Bush-1, and this idiot.)

I should be up with the Loyalists by the time the next election rolls around, but still eligible to vote against whoever the neocons send as their front-man. If anyone bothers to count the votes.
