I've got a guest blog on Romancing the Blog. Waffling on (not for terribly long) about gay historical Romance, so please come on over, and read and comment! I didn't know they'd accepted my submission so it's a nice Sunday surprise for me.

Dear Lili,

The sun is shining does NOT equate to "It's time to get up"

I do not appreciate being bullied and yeowled at for a couple of hours and then coming downstairs to find that it's 10 past 7.

no love.

Mother.

Dear Hideo Kojima.

Having Snake body search a baddie and say "By the way, nice package"?

I adore you. But you knew that.

Nicely done. And wow, I got a mention as an example! By the way, I know I need to contribute something more to the "Macaronis" I'm still working on an article about the myth versus historical accuracy of the Old West, I just need to do some more research because I want it to be really good.

I'm butting in here, sorry...but if you're looking for any research recs on the topic, I'd recommend "Vigin Land: The American West as Symbol and Myth" by Henry Nash Smith. Well worth the read, IMHO.

Well I think it's important to point out to people that it's not just women writing it.

I'm looking forward to that post, I'm hoping you can help me with my Standish sequel when I get around to it, although that's 1820 ish, and not later.

Ten past seven? You are *so* lucky!! Elf has decided that 4.30 am is great for bouncing on top of me and yowing into my ear. She was a bit late this morning - just 5.15am!!

Oh it STARTED about four, but I thought it was 9, and when I got downstairs I had a big shock. I don't think I'd seen 7 on a Sunday since I used to go to horse shows

Hello there! I read your guest blog over on Romancing the Blog and thought it to be an interesting discussion. There needs to be more gay relationships in romantic fiction.

Thank you! And how nice of you to come over here. There's a lot of gay romance writers on my flist if you are interested.

It's a bit of a quiet discussion, but I'm hoping it might hot up later.

Thanks again!

"It's a bit of a quiet discussion, but I'm hoping it might hot up later."
I could go and do another rant about gay men's voice being appropriated by straight writers, etc. etc., but I don't suppose that's the kind of 'hot' you had in mind.

I find it offensive and intrusive that:

1. You only bother to comment on my posts with incendiary comments like this.

2. You assume that everyone is straight.

You bring nothing new to the table, but say the same bloody thing over and over and again.

I still find it baffling why you find it peculiar that writers are ABLE to write in voices other than their own - this has been done as long as writers have been around. Do I complain when male writers "appropriate" a woman's voice when they write a book from a female point of view?

Pah.

I'm not going there again. You've had three strikes. It's clear to me that you troll my LJ (and read not just the main post but also the comments therein) purely to drop in snide little messages like this. I have no idea WHY you find my LJ so fascinating, but if I offend your delicate sensibilities so very much, I think you will be happier when you aren't allowed on it.

Read, commented.

I don't see RTB ever playing host to a really good, in-depth discussion of gay romance -- the mods are a bit too touchy/nervous about it, because most of the readers seem to be firmly and comfortably settled in the het stacks -- but just exposing the very mainstream het readers and writers who hang there to the idea that yes, there is gay romance out there, and no, it's not all about the ewwy-ick sex, is progress. :)

Well - in light of your comment, I'm even more pleased that they posted my piece.

I admit that I deliberately pitched it at that audience, stressing the fact that it's NOT all throbbing cocks and anal sex and that some of the men writing it were more romantic than many of the women. Perhaps this little post will encourage them to open their doors to more posts discussing it.

I travel hopefully!
