So, I started to read "The Eyre Affair" last night and I simply could not could not put it down. I read over half before I passed off, book on my face. Utterly loving it. It's interesting to see the other side of the argument and having a man writing a female perspective - due to my reading habits over the last few years I haven't encountered this for a while, and I don't think he quite gets it "right" hee hee. But I'm not complaining, it's still a great read.

Oh and FINALLY I see where JKR got her Camping Trip from HELL idea from for Deathly Hallows, as this is one of the lines in The Eyre Affair"

"Backpacking in the Forest of Dean?  Whatever made him do a thing like that?"

Well, he didn't steal the idea from someone else, apparently!

I also laughed like a DRAIN at the explanation for why apostrophes appear all over the place in the wrong places e.g "Cauliflower's Two Pound's"

And I agree with people.  Animated Batman is the best characterisation. YUM.

I love Jasper Fforde and the Thursday Next series of books. It's really lovely to read intelligent, well thought out fiction for a change.

the POV switches are a little distracting - I don't mind the changes from first to third from chapter to chapter, but when he's in first person he refers to things that Thursday can't possibly know about e.g. people's motivations and inner thoughts, which an editor should have stomped on.

But otherwise, excellent!

Oh, aren't they fantastic? The first is my favourite, but all five are lots of fun. I met him at a conference a few months ago and he's great fun -- very down-to-earth and willing to answer silly questions.

I'm liking it a lot - it was hilarious when the worms started to get all upset.

*nodnodnodnodnod* See! Best. Batman. EVAHZ!!! There are a lot of good stories in BTAS, and even though you know he never kills, that doesn't stop the action from happening or the mobsters from shooting or the fear that someone else might off a character.

Hehehe... when you get to the episode "Almost Got'em" you'll see Harvey/Poison Ivy bickering. The other supervillians at the table are all, 0_o; So, Ivy is all, "We used to date." Which the other supervillians are all, "oooh." *gigglefit*

Ahem, yeah, I'm glad you like the show. ^_^

I doubt they are being shown in ANY order, and I don't know how far we are along - we have Batgirl, and yesterday's episode was about Krank and his mad toys - and a hiliarious bodyguard called Cash who spoke in the 3rd person.

*check*

Ah - it's the third season - "cash for toys"...

Oh well, at least it gets me up at 8am!!

I'm a great fan of Fforde, and eagerly looking forward to the Next book in the series -- either with Thursday, or with his spinoff Nursery Crimes books. The only part of the series I've not been completely happy with is the character Landen Parke-Laine. He's never really grabbed me. But the Unitary Authority of Warrington Cat (found first in Lost In A Good Book) is utterly divine.

I once wrote some Thursday Next fanfic (http://lady-isabella.livejournal.com/108869.html), actually...

I am boggled that you hadn't discovered Fforde already! I've got all the books so far, apart from the latest, First Among Sequels (aren't his titles superb?), which I read about two-thirds of at [livejournal.com profile] smallship1's place on my way to Wales, and had hoped to finish on the way back this weekend, but never had time, alas! I'll get to it eventually, but I refuse to buy the hardback editions...

I enjoyed it! I'll have to order the others from the library.
